Just recieved the L&M lowering spring from NateDog. I was just wondering if it's actually as easy as they make it seem on the video, or will it turn out to be a 10 hour project. Figured I'd ask some of you guys that may have already done this. Any sugestions on compressing the shock to get the old one off and the new one on? I'm thinking about taking it to a shop to have them swap it.

I think i might also take off the rear tire off to put on the Side mount license that I pruchased from
( http://www.road6customs.com/online-shop.html#ecwid:category=337153&mode=product&product=1827453 )
Looks like it needs placed on the rear axle rod. Any suggestion for this one?

Thanks

Its always hard to tell others how easy or hard something is, I think it comes down to you and how comfortable you are with taking things apart and putting them back together. The job itself isn't hard and yes I think its easier taking the rear wheel off, but it is time consuming. Other factors are having a lift or not...for me I can't stand doing this kind of work on the ground, but at min you need a decent jack and some patience.

You can always take just the shock down to the shop and get them to change out the spring, personally I feel you get more out of things when you do them yourself, but everyone isn't comfortable doing this kind of stuff, so in the end I think its an easy job.

I deffinatly agree with doing things yourself. usually gets me pretty angry for a while but couldn't be happier when it's done. I'm borrowing a friends motorcyle jack to lift it, co it won't be completly on the ground. The only reason I may take the spring it's self to the shop is I don't have anythign big enough or strong enough to compress it to do the spring swap. The L7M video said something about a half tone compressor. Unfortunately, I don't have one of those laying around since i work on computers for a living so I don't usually need one. But I will be doing all Mods I feel I'm capable of doing. without effin stuff up.

I would personally take to a shop for that one. I like doing things myself but I wouldn't have a compression tool like that either. I can tell you I replaced my exhaust with V&H pipes and the job spec'd for 1 hour.....took me 3 lol.

Question: what's the deal with lowering the bike? How much lower does doing this give you? Does it really change the look that much?

The L&M spring is suposed to lower it 1.5 inches. I'm personally diong it since I want to cut off the rear fender almost all the way to the brackets for the rear seat and put on a 250. I saw somewhere that lowering it gives it the hard tail look, without the hard ride. We'll see, but for the price i got the spring from NateDog I couldn't pass it up. One of those "I want to do it eventually and I'll never find it cheaper".

Well if something like that is needed, it looks like I'll be taking the sock and springs to the shop after I get them off cause I deffinatly don't have something like that laying around.

These bikes sit even higher than the Raider ... and I thought it sat high. Lowering some say gives a better ride ... I only do it for looks. I think lowering the Stryker will be the first mod "we" do to the wife's Stryker.

I want to lower mine as well being a wife myself. I have got a kit which is just a shorter bottom yoke link but will still need to strip down and compress spring. We shall see if it works or not. :-\

To me getting the shock out was harder than switching the spring, but I have a press! Don't forget your network here, alot of people have tools like these and are willing to help. Post up and see if there's someone close enough to you?

Maybe we could have a section like "rides" but for assistance on mods?
