Should hit 600 miles next week. I been checking out other threads dealing with the 600 mile service and my question is at the 600 mile change should I go regular or synthetic 10-40? I'm north of Nashville bout 45 miles and we have been having to my understanding uncharacteristic hot weather, mid 90's, so I should be good to go running 10-40? As far as oil brands on my Vstar that I had and my Raptor 350s I use the Yamalube and havent had any issues. Any input on brand would be appreciated as well.

My filter was in there like it was permanent. We had to hammer a screw driver thru the old filter just to pry it off. My last service was at the dealer and they overtightened like a B
Did you get the Amsoil filter or use the Yamaha filter?

Well i need to chime in hear. So i am old school and when i say old i mean okd. i used to change my oil every 2500 miles with conventional 10-40 when i lived in California (LA). so i poss a question can it hurt to change the oil before its due with synthic oil. living in chicago the bike will not run for 4 months time. I was thinking of changing the oil out when i pen them up for the winter. ???

My 2 cents. Modern synthetics will outperform conventional petroleum products, but remember, oil has 3 jobs. Lubricate, cool and clean. Key word "clean". The oil is constantly circulating and carrying little bits of metal and carbon to be deposited in your oil filter before returning to the engine. So even if synthetic oil can go 12,000 miles vs 5,000 on conventional, be sure to change the filter at regular intervals regardless of oil type. Otherwise it defeats the purpose. You may already know this, but some people overlook it.

The problem with going to syn right away is that your bike has ceramic cylinders. being ceramic they are extremely smooth from the start and they don't create wear like metal cylinders do. You might want to concider going alittle longer with reg oil to give your rings a chance to seat then go to full syn for sure. I would recomend at least 1,000 miles if not more...
