K&N makes the little foam vents, perhaps you could modify your air box on the backside with those, Uni has foam material you could mount on the inlet to airbox? In cuonjunction with the K&N? They also have pre-screens for the K&N to keep out the fines?

I think that is what I will have to do. I always look for the easy way first.
I don't see a reason to use the Uni filter in conjunction with a K&N.
Actually, I have always thought that the filter boxes are designed for increased airflow velocity, and then some one puts a filter in line that decreases the airflow by introducing turbulence.

I did as “straightjacket” and I talked about. I took the original filter and removed all the paper. Then I cut a larger hole in the top of the plastic, Hot glued some aluminum screen to the top opening. I then covered it all with Uni-filter fine foam filter material and contact cemented it into place. After I used PJ1 filter spray to treat the foam I went for the long ride to see how it all worked. No problem and I can clean it with mineral spirits and reuse it. It is not pretty but highly functional.
I also cut the back side of the stock air box the same as was done on this site to increase air flow as needed.
