Considering doing a iron butt run. In order to play by the rules and do the 1000 miles in the 24 hours I really need to be getting 190 to 210 mile per tank. Doing Any more than the 5 or 6 gas stops really jeopardizes the time. Maintaining an average speed of 60 MPH it's going to take almost 17 hours. That's not counting those gas stops. Has anyone figured out how to carry more gas on board. Im not looking to carry any type of can because that effectively would be a stop to add it to the tank

There's those hats I have seen at the football games where you can stick your beers on your head and they have a little tube that connects them. JK.

I've been considering this myself. But it states most complete this in 18-20 hours. Interstate speeds around me are 70 so if I never had to stop it would be around 14.2 hours. But even stopping every 100 miles for gas for about 20 minutes would add just over 3 hours. This making it around 17-18 hours. I think there's plenty of gas in the tank. The better question can my butt sit that long. Tell me if that doesn't sound right.

Max out your tire pressure front & rear. Keep your rpms down getting to 5th gear & keep your speed around 65-70mph then go see how many miles you can get out of a tank.

On a full hwy tank I've gone just over 200 miles a few times. Riding mainly back roads I normally gas up every 160 miles or so without topping off the tank. I do fill the tank with the bike upright (not on kick stand).

My friend did this, planned his route very carefully and bought a very comfortable seat. He adjusted his controls and shed some unnecessary weight. Trying to carry more gas is not a good way to approach it. Route planning and comfort were key according to this I know who have done or attempted it.
