When the light comes on, the speedo starts doing a count-up of how many miles have passed since the light came on, and I had no idea how far the next station was. So....riding real nice, the miles said "54" when I finally hit the gas station.

...and it took 3.92 gallons at the pump.

I have gone 12 miles, some have gone 20, don't believe any one has said they made it past 25 to 30 miles.

I've gone 20, but did slow down to 70. LOL. Even then, the tank only took 3.4 gallons, so I would have to say my gauge isn't that accurate.

Agree but being a scardy pants I go by what it says. Today ran the E-fuel to 15.9 and only put in 3.421 gallons so room to spare even though I topped off some extra.

I personally think the gauge errors on the side of caution but I hope never to understand just how empty it can get. Normally at 3/4's low I fill up just like the cars but situations do arise that require running it closer to empty;...

Definitely not interested in pushing it. I fill up @ about 120 and it takes 3 gallons. Even in a car, I fill up with about 1/4 tank.

side note- Went to fill up my bike today. Im stilling on the bike balancing it while i fill it. ( think i can get more gas in it that way. Im watching the meter go higher and higher.. next thing I know i feel my right inside pant at the knee getting wet. Whole entire tank was covered in gas, dripping down the side of the bike. I was pissed at my self. And yes the nozzle was as far in as it can go. I dont know why it look so some for it to auto shut off

I think the farthest I have pushed mine is 20ish miles once the low fuel light came on and it still only took 3.5 gal to fill it. We tend to fuel up ever 130 miles or so on long rides. We always tank at the local gas station on short rides simply so we can arrive home with as much in the tank as possible.

I had the same issue at a bike rally about a month ago. The gas station shutoff was slow and spilled over the top of the tank. I was pissed.

On normal riding how far can you go once the low fuel light comes on?
Lot of "ifs" and "assumptions" here so take it for what it is worth...
Full tank including little one under the seat is 4 gallons
Display will change when 1/4 tank
Light comes on about 1/8 tank

If you get the mfg mpg of 40/mpg then 1/8th of a tank would be 20 miles or so.

Note: I've gotten more especially if riding backroads and getting higher mpg. I've also never put in more than 3.7 and I was sweating it there. Each bike will be a little different so get used to checking the miles when 1/4 comes on because the previous 3/4's tank could have been at higher/lower mpg. From that point you have 30-50 miles depending on how you are riding at that moment till bone dry and all the associated headaches.
Note: Since the fuel cools the fuel pump and running dry is bad on a number of fronts do the smarter thing and watch the odometer(I use trip 2 for fuel) and fill up between 1/4 tank indication and when the low fuel light comes on. If you are in no-man's land or unfamiliar territory fill up more often. Cheap insurance and you might meet cool people at the station to ride with.

As for overfilling, happened once at Costco and would have happened the other day if I wasn't paying attention. Another reason for knowing how many miles you have gone on a tank is to have an estimate on how much fuel will be added.
P.S. Costco doesn't have windshield wipes and I did this right after viewing the youtube video of a "guy having a bad day" when he started the bike on fire at a gas station. I was seriously worried firing her up and made sure I knew where the extinguisher was after waiting 5 minutes for the fuel to drip off as much as possible!!

I guess that works if you are going to continue riding for awhile after filling up but if its filled up to the neck in the upright position and you park it shortly afterwards I suspect the marginal amount gained in that position is going overflow via the cap. These bikes lean really far over. Maybe I am over thinking it.

I fill mine the same way, and often fill it a mile from the house on the way home and never had any overflow. Even during the heat of summer.
