I just got a call fro GE. I forgot to pay my bill yesterday with everything going on.

I told the rep to go ahead and take it out and sorry I forgot, and BAM!, they hit me with a $39 late fee and a $15 pay by phone fee.

I financed with them because it was the easiest, since I was at the dealer anyways.

I definitely will not be late again... I gotta fill out that automatic payment paperwork.

geez those fee's seem a little excessive for the first occurrence. I can understand levying those feels on repeat offenders. Auto Draft is the only way to go!

I've had them repeatedly try to hit me with that because it takes them more than a week to process my check. I've always paid my bills all at once some time in the last week of the month, and I've never had any other financing company come at me with this crap. So I started sending out that check earlier, and they've STILL tried to get me for it. And they're real douchy about it. I won't be financing with them again for sure. No online payments, douchenozzle customer service, no grace periods at all, fees for making payments. I haven't done the autodraft thing yet because there was some language on that form I didn't really understand, and I've been thinking about trying to put together some dough to pay them off and never deal with them again.

Yeah, I've financed and paid off 5 cars with my bank. I will probably refinance with them and say f*** GE. A late penalty is to be expected, although my bank will not charge them, but $39 and $15 is outrageous.

I pay them through my bank's bill pay service (which is a free service), which GE receives the 2nd business day. I'm also at least a month ahead (maybe more - the statement always says no payment is due) so even if something bizarre happened during the electronic hand-off, they're still being paid way early.

And, they didn't tell you during the call that paying by phone would cost $15? If not, personally, I would call and get the charge removed.

In my experience with financial institutions…on the rare occasion that I’ve incurred a “late fee” or some similar “service charge” all I had to do was point out my good track record with them and request the fee’s be removed…this has worked every time. Along those same lines…whenever I re-up my cell phone service for a new 2 year contract with my provider they automatically charge a $35 “Activation Fee”… and they’ve happily waived it every single time simply because I asked them too. So many people just assume fees are set in stone…often times they are not.

Yeah, I've had my bike for a couple of months (maybe 6), so not enough history with them. I definitely wont be late again if I stay with them.

Also, they told me about the $15 before I paid, but it would have been worse if I would have put it off instead of paying over the phone.

I doubt it would've amounted to $15 in interest, unless you took a couple of weeks to mail the payment. They can't report to a credit bureau until the payment is 30 days late.

Sprint always waived my activation fee...until this last time when I could only talk them into waiving 1/2 of it. But I did get the Galaxy S3 for nothing other than the 1/2 activation fee and a renewal of the 2 year contract, so I did okay anyway.

Have had my bike financed with them for 29 months now. Only 7 to go. No problems at all, but I always send a check when bill comes in mail. Just how I roll. I have never made a late payment in my past 36 years of credit.

Although my bike is not insured with GE, I purchased a Yamaha boat several years back and financed it with them. Though i never made a payment late, I did pay by phone several times when I was unsure a mailed check would make it in time. They nailed me the $15 phone fee every time. I took a slightly higher interest rate with a credit union rather than finance my bike with them. Needless to say I wasn't at all satisfied with the institution.

be careful with the auto drafts. twice before I had companies "forget" when the loan was bill was paid in full and continue to draft my acct. then had to fight with the bank to get my own money back. now I do like TheComputerGuy and only use online payments. if something goes wrong, the bill pay service is on the hook.

I don't like autopay because every time I've ever had an account set up that way, invariably the company makes a mistake at some point and gets more of my money than they should. Never had it happen the other way, where they left too much money in my bank account, of course.

My credit union offers that for free. I'm going to look into it.
I prefer being able to pay @ the target company's website, but the bank's bill pay service is a good 2nd option. Only as a last resort would I consider mailing a payment - which I haven't had to do in a long time. Other than Priority Mail, I try to avoid the postal service.
