so we just had our first 70 degree day and took my bike out for the first real time since October. For the first few months it sat in my bro-i=laws garage taken around the block every few weeks, but in the last month its sat outside under a carport under a bike cover and turned on and ridden around the block. so the for my ride, when i got it out on the road, when i went up to 3rd and gears above, the gear didnt actually just "slip" up with the tap of my boot. i actually had to get under the gear and almost bump it up.
do i need to get an oil change and service before regular use, or does anyone have any hindsight or experience about this?

thanks.

I had something similar happen to me when I first got the bike. What it turned out to be was I was accidentally keeping a little upward pressure on the shifter after shifting up as my boots where a little tight under the shifter. I adjusted the sifter linkage to raise the shifter up for more clearance for my boots, and the problem went away. According to the dealer, it's kinda a safety thing that when the was upward pressure on the shifter after shifting, it won't allow you to shift up again with out releasing the pressure, after adjusting the linkage, I've had no more issues with shifting at all. This may help your problem.
