Ok, I am getting ready to buy a new rear tire, 240/40R18. Just want your input on the best out there.
most folks on here either go with the Dunlop Elite 3 or the Avon. Both are good...Dunlop is cheaper priced but Avon has small diameter so you have less clearance issues if you lower. I went with the Avon2

I use Metzler like a lot of others do. They are in between Dunlop and Avon in diameter and price. They are a better all purpose tire. If you ride in and on conditions like I do, bad weather and twisty mountain roads most of the time they work great.

I use the Pirelli Night Dragon.
So far it has been very sticky on the smooth roads here in Houston. I used to be able to squeal the stock tire shifting from 1st to 2nd while leaning slightly, not with the new tire. It is supposed to be a new tire design to help with a larger contact patch as well as evacuate water on wet roads. Haven't had to ride in the rain yet though.

There are just to 1/8" ribs on inside of lower guard. Just eliminate the ribs by grinding or sanding.

Wrong in my case friend, The Avon 240 just scrubbed those ribs enought to make noise. The 250 is a different story though. Need hack saw for that.

Thanks for sharing, I thought the 240 was just a plug and play

Yep good deals are out there for sure. I got my Avon 240 for $210 shipped from Dennis Kirk.

I checked my front Avon and the R is not in the size and nowhere on tire does it say radial or bias.

I have no complaints. I put this on at the same time with the 250 rear and I think it is even better when riding on those tar strips in roads where they seal the cracks. The bridgestone used to wander alot.
