I have saw many people mostly doing four holes but starting to see some do eight 1/2 inch holes. I dont want super loud but do want a great sound. I know I can see what 4 sounds like, but cannot go back if I do eight. Just want to see what the board says.

I assume when you say 8 1/2 inch holes you are referring to 4 in each pipe which is usually how it is done. I haven't done the 8 in each but from past readings some say it sounds like crap and others say it's ok. I would go with 4 in each (8)...

I agree with Visionary - 4 is enough. I just drilled 4 in each pipe today and it sounds GREAT, especially with the Cobra intake.

However, the 8 holes will actually fit. I did a CAD drawing to create a template for 4 holes, and modified it for 8 holes just to check. As you can see, 8 holes would actually fit and wouldn't be too hard to drill.

I'm not sure if you can post a PDF file on the forum. But if you PM me, I'd be happy to mail you a 4, 5, or 8 hole template in PDF form so you can just print it, cut it out, centerpunch, then drill. Really easy.

I did the 4 then went to 8 there wasn't that much of a sound difference IMO, maybe a little louder, didn't get the chance to ride with anyone to see if they could hear a difference or not. I did continue and took out back baffle compleatly and drill the center pipe. It's not as loud as the V&H that are on my brothers bike but the tone is deeper.

I have had loud and don't want that. But do want a better sound. Looks like four holes is gonna be the ticket. I like some on hear actually like the stock pipe looks and get a lot of compliments on them. I had Vance Hines short shots on my 650 no baffles. Loved that but I said when I got this bike it would not be that loud.

Do the 4 holes in each and then get a long bit and drill 1/2" hole up inside front of the baffles.

Okay have made my decision, going with a 5 - 1/2 inch whole, but not doing the drill out in the center. Hope to get this done tommorow. 90% chance of rain so will need something to do since I am off of work and cannot ride.

Did the 12 4 8 (three holes) for each...Not toooooooooo loud...but you can feel the 'MID' range improvement...These motors because of their relative short stroke compared to their pushrod brothers like the Road Warrior seem to like the higher rpms...I sure hope someone comes out with a better selection of slip-ons that what's available...PEACE RIDE SAFE

I would love to know how this comes out. I am thinking about doing the same thing, but not sure how many holes. Please post your results. Templates are really cool. I will be requesting a template once I decide how many holes. Great forum.. Thank you all for the great information.

Gotta drill them stock pipes......much better sound, even with just 4......

I've had mine drilled for months, used a homemade template, a punch to get them started, then used a small bit first and incrementally increased the size, and then painted them with high temp black paint......

I may get the drill out again someday.....
