Initially I purchased the GoPro camera to do my speed test run which I posted back in July, but since then I decided to come up with a somewhat permanent mount on my bike so I can have the camera recording every time I ride, mainly for video evidence if a car pulls out in front of me as we’ve seen happen to our fellow members.
For the Speed-Test Run I did back in July I simply mounted the camera to my helmet so you could see the speedo climbing past 130, but I’m not a guy that wants to ride around with a camera strapped to his head every day, so I’ve been experimenting for the last few months on the best way to mount the camera to my bike. First of all the mounts that GoPro makes won’t work when mounted directly to the bike, way too much vibration in the recorded image. I purchased a Ram Mount which completely solved the image quality issue.
This is the first place I mounted the Ram mount.
Worked great, very handy to see and get to, but I found it more obtrusive that I wanted. So I decided to move the mount down below the headlight. I drilled a couple holes in the fork brace and bolted the Ram mount down so it extends just in front and to the side of the headlight.
Personally I rarely if ever ride at night so this placement works great for me. I’ve uploaded a short video so you can see the recorded image from this setup
