The reason these helmets come with a second visor is because you can't get parts for them. You won't have that problem with your HJC. An HJC Mutant was the first helmet I bought when I got my sport bike. HJC is about the best bottom line helmets that I trust. I still wear it on occasions. But you can find a used Shoei RF1000 on craigslist all the time for around the same price. Trust me. Its four times as good a helmet. I also love my Scorpion EXO 700's. I would stick with the HJC. Do you really want to trust your head bouncing off the pavement with a $40 helmet?

I agree with what they are saying but all helmets have to meet dot spec so technically that helmet should work just fine now if you want better protection buy a helmet that meets dot and european specs the euro spec is even tougher than the dot. I am sorry i wish i could give you an example but i am not fully awake yet. I will look it up later unless someone else chimes in?

I haven't been able to find any kind of reviews online (so far) for these helmets. Price tag and graphics aside, has anyone physically seen or held one of these to judge the quality of the helmet for themselves?

What I've learned over the years is the protection factor of most helmets are the same whether it costs $40 or $1200. The differences are in the materials used (shell and liner), the R&D involved, features (i.e. venting, visors, graphics.) As long as it is DOT or the highly debated better SNELL rating, then your covered as far as protection.

Whether or not these helmets have a true DOT rating or just a sticker slapped on is unknown. For that you'd have to check with the proper authorities.

I agree with Natedog. As long as it has a legit DOT or Snell then your paying for the name and extra materials. Most of these helmets along with most stuff today is made in one or two locations and then the company that is paying them puts on their stickers and labels. Just make sure it is a legit Dot and then all these helmets have passed the same safety standards.

When I first starting dating my current girl i cheaped out and got her a 40 modular helmet. It sucked. Yes it was DOT aproved but the material was cheap, didnt latch closed well, and very uncomfortable. Now she rides a Nolan and loves it, kept the cheepy to give friends rides, but definately not worth it as a full time helmet.
