I am trying to adapt mine now...do u mean u just laid a piece of 18" x 18" plywood on top of the legs...didn't that hit the motor when raising the bike?

Yes it does hit the bottom of the motor, but the wood has enoughflex that I have seen no problem using this method for last three years. Cutting out as muskie did is optimal!

I never went through any of that with my harbor freight... just brought the bike up and then used a tie down... rock solid.
