Interesting. Thx Toby.
But like you, I enjoy parking my bike without an oil pan underneath.
ahhahahaha... I remember walking into HD dealers and seeing the little drops of oil under the bikes years ago. Haven't been to a HD dealer in a long time, not sure if they fixed their oil issues or not. Either way, i think it's funny how HD enthusiasts rag on japanese bikes for being liquid cooled. They used to do the same thing when japanese cruisers started shifting to fuel injection. Like liquid cooling look like HD is following suit of the japanese brands. honestly, i'll take the rectangle between the frame instead of overheating concerns. My 1100 Custom was air cooled and carbureted... summers were often ruined having to left the bike cool on the side of a jammed up highway, or being stuck at a gas pump with vapor lock cause of the carbs. Good riddance I say.. only thing I'll miss is the easy of maint. on carbs.

You are welcome . Thought it pretty interesting. Bout time they made a stab at catching up with technology. But joy sticks? on each side of the bars? I think the article said. I guess that beats Gold Wings. lol

Harley guys are already saying , "great, just what we need, more electronics "

Thats smart thinking from Harley!!! Now they can sell $600 chrome radiator covers:thumb:

Most likely I check them out during a local event this september. There is a Harley plant just a few miles from me. As much as i hate hearing about harleys everywhere i go, the plant is pretty cool

About a week ago I was talking to a Senior sales guy at a HD shop in NH, He said he and a few other from the sales team were heading to a full day of training in a couple weeks... He said the last time Harley sent them out for a full day was in 2007 and something big must be coming...he said he assumed a liquid cooled engine... Guess he was right..

Probably have to blame CA. I think any new bike models sold in CA must be water cooled. Our hippy weenies in gov't think we are causing global warming with air cooled motors.

Well here we go again with the recalls. Back in mid 90's hardley abe to came out with
the twinn scam engine. A couple of years later 170,000+ hardleys were recalled for
failing cam bearings and such. Then when they came out with their mighty "110"
Engine they were recalled for blown cylinder base and head gaskets and bad cylinder
heads. From what I read awhile back. Only the cylinder heads are water cooled and
the cylinders are air cooled to keep the air cooled look. I bet major recalls are coming
for coolant leaks. I never owned a hardley abel to. I m sure they won't let their die hard
owners down either with yet another redesigned recall. I take that back.the hardley decals on the back of their pickum ups are still shineing.lolololol.

Inside scoop on the liquid cooled motors. A good friend of mine works for HD. As of last week, at our local HD facility, they had over 7000 fully assembled bikes in their shop waiting for working pumps. The pump HD uses has been failing and over heating the motor then seizing. He told me there was no way he would buy a 2014!

So you're right.... Recall!

You'd be surprised how many HD parts are made overseas. HD is not all American made sad to say...

Yep.I read in bike mag years ago. Hd has as much as 33 1/2 foreign parts in them. I rember when the polaris victory bikes had Yamaha Roadstar transmission gears in them.
Victory is the new American motorcycle with lots and lots of sourced out parts. Just about nothing is all American made. **** my new SS Convertable Camaro is 60%the sourced out. In fact the 6 speed manual tranny is made in Japan. I know that wont break.lol.

One of the reasons HDs have improved in quality and dependability in the past ten years is from the foreign parts they use. I think in the past 5 years they have added Japan to there long list of imported parts.

No, they didn't change anything as far as I can tell . Still the same old HDS with some new electronic gadgets and liquid cooled motors.

Mine was a 2011.1026, bought in October 2011/10/26, so almost a year old. Stryker has a tested and proven power plant 1304cc from the V Star and geometric design already proven by the Raider, so no real risk of something brand new.
but invest tens of thousands of dollars in a new design from a company that is well known for their design flaws and failures is just not something I would do.:tsk:

My Harley friend, he is not my buddy anymore! he has broke up with me one too many times..... He has a 2001 night train POS. I told him a long time ago to get rid of it cause it's old, he always came back~ NO, its a night train, they dont make them anymore...I says there is a reason for that! He spent 5k to fix it this year and now he wants to sell it, he wont take less that 10k....LMFAO! I'm gonna go sing some Karaoke tonight with his GF....
