I bought my Stryker in May and lurked on this fourm all summer long. I put almost 10K (kilometers) on her. I loved the bike and took it every where I went. So many comments from everyone, so many people turn their heads as you go by. Now if only the other driver noticed the bike too.......

In late Sept i was coming home to attend a funeral for a friend, to be there for her. it was nice out, and coming to the end of the riding season, so i took the bike for the 2hr drive.

i was coming up to a hill going north bound (in my lane), and to my surprise there was a van stupidly passing up the other side coming right at me (in my lane). i tried to swerve between the two cars coming at me because I was in the left rut on the road closest to the center line. Luckly I did manage to avoid hitting her front end by micro seconds, the main part of the bike went inbetween the cars. But.... My right hand must of hit her windsheild, which caused the front tire to turn into her side of the vehical and I started to be a human cheese grator against her side of the car. Finally the front forks went into her rear tire and ripped everything apart (my frontend and her backend) My right side got the worst of it. i think my foot took off her back tire right off. i rolled and landed on my back. i didnt have any road rash on me. but i kept my eyes closed and focus on breathing the whole time laying there.

The bad, I had to loose my right foot during surgery. There was just too much damage to the bones and vains and other internal stuff. My right hand was in surgery for 5hrs, the wrist was completely shattered. They have a plate and a hole bunch of pines in it.

The good, yes there is goood in this, i have no neck, brain, back, or internal injuries.

its upsetting that i was trying to be a good person, and ended up like this. we think the bike saved my life because it can turn quick. if i was in my other small car (Saturn) it would of been a full head on and would of been a lot worse, like my whole lower body would of been crushed. plus my dog would of been with me and would of died. I had a great summer riding the Stryker, I will miss it.

Think Yamaha would care to hear my story if I write them?

Fast forward to now, I'm still in a wheelchair waiting for my leg to heal up. It's been slow in recovery fighting infections and other side effects. In a few months, I'll start to work with a prosthetic doctor to start walking again. im hoping i can still work and play with cars. Maybe even ride again (in a long long time from now)

so everyone out there.....
If u can't safely pass, wait 5 seconds. it could change someones life forever

ps. Funny thing, the main company for hospital supplies (atleast in Hamilton, Ontario) is called 'Stryker'. I was going under the knife, and my doctor had 'stryker' across his surgeon head rag. I looked around and stryker is all over the operating room. The plate and pines in my arm are all from stryker, so I guess she'll always be a part of me now.

WOW! This is a story we are hearing a little too often on these forums. Thank the Stars you are mostly whole and alive.
Tell your story often, it helps to heighten awareness.
May God Bless your recovery.

P.S. My wife just gifted me with a Gremlin Bell to hang on my bike (not that that would have helped in your situation)
I'm gonna hang that little sucker tonight.

Best of luck. Remember if you can't ride on two wheels you can always go to 3. Just ride. Thanks for sharing your story. Its guys like you who make the rest of us think a little more when we ride. You may have just saved someone from following your tragic ride.

I am sorry that happened to you and i hope you don't give up riding? I don't know what your future holds for your foot but if you can not hold up a 2 wheeler look at the canal spyder i have one of those also cause i thought i would never be able to hold up a 2 wheeler. You can do a lot with them yes the foot brake is on the right but they make an aftermarket hand brake which works great and it controls all three brakes, here is a web site you can troll around. www.spyderlovers.com. You can ask me questions if you want also. Feel better

Man I feel for you. When I read your story yesterday it cut really deep, I could not even respond. So today I have to say how much I admire your positive attitude. Amazing. I pray you will heal and become strong again soon. You will ride again, maybe not the same class of bike but there will be something for you. I have a Suzuki Burgman scooter, it's a 650cc twin and being either full automatic or manual with a click changer on the bar it has no clutch so left hand back brake and right hand front. It's an awsome ride and cruisers at 140 km/h easily staying along with the buddies and tops out at 190 km/h (don't tell my wife). Maybe that type of ride could be in your future. Be strong and please keep us informed how you are progressing, you are an inspiration. Regards from Durban RSA. (If ever you in my neck of the woods you are my guest)
