In Texas if you have done the safety course was you don't have wear one. I think people are idiots for not wearing a dot approved helmet. I see of German half helmets which are not safe. I got ran off the road on my 636 last April and id wear full gear every time I ride. I full face helmet, and padded jacket and gloves, and ect.

Your opinion has be noted....my life my choice..I also feel the same way with seat belts tho.... MN if you have an endorsement you don't need a brain bucket but I was wondering the samething with what the fine would be.

Helmets a choice in Illinois and now Michigan. I do own a full face helmet and usually wear it on long highway rides. Every time I do wear it, some jag says "Its not gonna save your life on the highway if you crash!" I shake my head every time I say, "I know that brainiac, but its the rocks, tire chunks, and other odd things flying at me from under cars and trucks that I am protecting against." Anywho, I also choose not to wear one during normal rides.

I would like to know if anyone was hit with a fine in their area for not wearing a helmet...

With all the juicy bugs & bees around me a full face (down) is a must. I usually open my shield at stop lights then close when I get to speed. Last week had a bee fly into my helmet at around 60mph. He ended up walking & buzzing around my ear. After a few miles I had to stop to get him out. As soon as I took my helmet off the bee flew in front of my face for a few seconds then flew away. Didn't get stung that time which is rare.

Actually, it just might save your life on the highway. I've had a couple riding buddies who would be vegetables right now if it were not for their helmets. Another guy, a coworker had an innocent low side on his bike going at a very low speed, but his head hammered the pavement. He got up and walked away. The paramedic said the helmet saved him from a coma.

To each his own... But to me, it's just common sense.

I'm not a fan of the gov. or anybody telling people what they have to do for safety. With that being said, I just went down on the hwy at over 60mph. scratches all over the helmet, lots of broken bones. I was able to take off my own helmet, and did not have a scratch. The first thing everyone asked for is, "where's his helmet?" then they checked to see if it was DOT! No ticket, and got $1500 for wearing it from the insurance! It wont be too long in Cali. before it will affect your insurances responsabilities if you dont have it on. I had my German novelty helmet in the bag on the back of my bike and had planned on wearing it home. Got off work late and wore the full face instead, glad I did! I will be buying new helmets now one to replace the crashed helmet and a DOT half if I can find one I like? Promised the wife no more fake helmets.

Be sure you claim the helmet to your insurance Straightjacket. I went down last December and totaled my Schoei RF-1100 when I slid on my side and back at 50+. Insurance sent me the money to purchase a new one which was quite a relief if you've ever priced one of those.

Again, personal choice but I wear all my gear every time I get on the bike. Lots of bugs down here and I've had my head racked back more than once with a large rock going down the road. Just my two cents....
