Just want to see what everyones opinion is on wearing helmet. I myself only wear one on longer trips. I know some areas its mandatory for you to wear a helmet but what if it wasn't mandatory what would you do? There's no helmet law here where I live.

No choice, but to wear one in new york state. Why would you want to get in a wreck and possibly be a vegetable for someone else to take care of???

you've got no choice up here in good old Canada. but WHY would you want to ride without one ? ? ?

half my family is in the health care sector and the only thing you call people that dont ride smart or without the proper gear is ORGAN DONORS

If your over the age of 21 you don't have to in FL and if you do wear one you don't need insurance. I would never ride without my helmet and plus it saves me an insurance payment every month. And I wear a full face cuz if anything ever happens a half helmet Won't help a whole lot.

In Florida it is optional . . . . . . when I was 19 I dropped a Yami RD-350 on a rain slick 2 lane road. As I skidded along my head hit the bumper of an oncoming car. My Bell helmet saved my life. My dad always insisted I have the best helmet my money could buy. My first helmet coast more than my first bike. So yes I always wear a skid lid. Currently got a neon yellow Scorpian Transformer modular that is pretty sweet.

I just had a cousin die a week ago due to not wearing a helmet. He was 20. And the other day on the interstate the car in front of me kicked up a piece of a truck tire. It was about 3"-4". It bounced off my helmet and hit me in the shoulder. This was one of the few times I wasn't wearing a jacket. It hurt like ****. It was in heavy traffic so if I hadn't been wearing my full face I probably would be gone too.

Oh and a friend of mine may have totaled his Stryker today on his way from work. A car crossed the center line in front of the car in front of him. The car in front of him slammed on brakes and he hit the ditch. He said he was just scratched up. But the he won't know what the verdict is until the insurance adjuster looks at it.

sorry to hear, im glad he is okay. If they scrap it make sure to try and sell the parts to at least make some money back.

He has full coverage on it so if the insurance company totals it he'll get a new one to replace it and the old one will probably go to aution somewhere.

There is no helmet law here and I still wear one on every trip. A full face at that. It cuts down **** flying in my face and it would actually protect my dome in the event of a get off, unlike those brain buckets.

It's the law here in Cali also. And I know all the arguments for and against. I'd rather not HAVE to wear one if I don't want to, I want the choice to be an organ donor! I'm sure more people die in car wrecks but thats a different story. I have a long commute so for the most part I wear a full face, there are alot of bugs in the dark riding arournd the lake! For most shorter trips I only wear a half helmet because you have to wear somthing!

Now here's the kicker, for short trips, just cruisen through town runnin errands in the heat I'll wear shorts. I just love people in NOVELTY helmets trying to tell me how dangerous it is to ride in shorts! I mean come on now when your wearin a novelty helmet(which I do) you've pretty much given up your right to tell others what they should wear?

No statisticlly the percentage of motorcycle fatalities in a crash is way higher then that of cars. And the leading fatality rate for motorcycles is due to severe head trauma. Though I would never go without a helmet I still respect the persons right to chose as long as my insurance doesn't get affected because your family wants to keep you on life support. I feel as an american we should be able to make our own decisions whether they are right or wrong. I'm the same way about seat belts. But I feel if you get hurt due to decisions you made then you should also have to suffer the consequences. I feel insurance, medecare, or medicade shouldn't pay any insurance if this is the case.
