alright guys, so I'm trying to get insurance for my Stryker that's being built. the best rate I've gotten so far is $808!! that's from progressive with 30/60/25 and nothing else! no uninsured/med bills/ nothing. I know this to be rediculous since most pay about 40-60 a month or less for good coverage. how do I get these fools to get realistic? granted I live in Dallas, am 27, single and rent, but still! no tickets, accidents and have usaa. any advise is appreciated, thank you! if you live in Dallas and are willing to share your premium with me that would help too so I can take that number to them.

Wow that sucks. Not from Dallas so nothing of value to add but for minimum insurance(liability at least) that seems high. You are past 25 for a male which is that last discount(or swapped if you get married) so unless you have some prior convictions/accidents I cannot see that rate.
Granted my rate has discounts and I'm 47 so they probably figure I'm a better risk. Still, seems high for low coverage. I have 250/500 liability like on my cars.

It would be worse in CA so don't move here. Is this going to be your only mode of transportation? Only asking as some of the low prices you hear others quoting is because the bike is bundled with the car insurance. So adding a bike to an existing policy may only add $30 / month.

I found the same thing as you did when I went shopping at all the typical insurance websites. Called my current carrier (Automobile Club of SoCal) and they said it would be an additional $289 to add it. Heck I'l save that in gas in the first month not driving my Tahoe.

May have to say goodbye to USAA.

Check Geico. I know rates depend on lots of factors, location, age, driving record being a few. I got a rate of $21 per month for mine through Geico for 50/100/50 and 250 deductible.

I have geico and recently went up to a $500,000 policy with a $250 deductible and think I only pay $450 a year. Your bike can be on a separate carrier from your vehicle. Shop around.

The more policies you can bundle with the same company the better rate they will give you. Might be time to switch from USAA. If you can get truck, bike, and renter/homeowner all with the same company it would probably help.

I had Allstate for $450 a yr, they wanted $680 this year. Then they tried to use the fact that I had an accident. I was rear ended in my other car. Didn't make claim on my insurance, the other guy paid for it with his, then the Hammer made him pay again. Geico wanted around the same $670. Progressive wanted $520. All for the same coverage. I took it. I have Travelers for the autos and the house. No one can beat them even if they raise my premium once in a while. USAA was very good back in the day but since that Hurricane in Florida......? ? ? ?

Good luck with this.

definitely not the only vehicle, I have my truck for that. I wish USAA had motorcycle insurance, this would be so much easier.
USAA does have M/C insurance, it's just through a carrier they use. It'll be cheaper than you going directly to that carrier. I think they use progressive (don't quote me).

If u just got ur motorcycle license or have not had it long that can and will affect the price some also. My buddy just got a cbr500r and he is havin the same issue that u are having. I recommended him to a broker I use and they are taking care of him way better than anyone else is.
If u would like the brokers # who I use and my buddy send me a pm.

I second the Foremost.com recommendation. I pay around the $400-$450/yr. and this includes $7,000 in accessory coverage, travel coverage for hotel/transportation/meals if an accident happens will traveling. I do not remember what the coverage limits are, but I went for the upper limits just to be on the safe side.

So many factors contribute to your rate it's hard to compare with others. But I bundled my truck and bike with Esurance. For the bike, they partner with Progressive and gave me a rate of $276 full coverage. Esurance quoted me a better rate through Progressive, then Progressive did when I called them directly. Go figure.

I also spoke to 2 different Esurance agents and the second agent gave me a better price than the first.

I have Dairyland Motorcycle insurance and I believe I pay almost $40 a month for full coverage.
I checked with them after I got my Geico policy and found them a little cheaper. I had already paid for my year so didn't bother switching. I also know that if you are a member of STAR they give a discount, not very big but a discount none the less.
