In case anyone is interested... Powder coating at home is Awesome!!! super simple... until... you scew something up... if you do, I have discovered an easy was to remove Polyester powder coat screw ups... ZAR paint stripper... stuff is crazy powerful... it takes some soaking... couple of hours... but it takes it right off!

Just some FYI

Where do you get the info on home powder coating?
I got most of my supplies from

http://www.eastwood.com/

They are very reasonable and have great customer service if you need help. Super easy to do:
any part that can withstand 400 degrees for 20 minutes

1.clean part GOOD!
2. hook up the ground wire... fill gun with powder.
3. spray powder coating part evenly... if you mess up.. blow powder off and re do.
4. bake part at specified temp... when part glosses over... set timer to specified time (20 min)
5. after time elapses... remove part (aah part is HOT) and let cool
6. admire how nice the part look!

I think I'm going to research this a bit more. A few on the Raider site have gotten their wheels done for fairly cheap. Here in Alberta I have not been able to find nearly as cheap. I've been quoted up to $150 per wheel where guys are getting wheels and misc. parts done for a total of $150. I think this could pay itself off in a very little amount of time by doing my wheels and the missus wheels.

SFCMcGan ... have you done a chrome part yet? If so, how is that done?
I've painted the chrome pieces on my bike and I've sanded, used an etching primer and then paint. Would sanding/scuffing the chrome work with pcing?

you don't "have" to scuff the chrome... the powder will stick just fine if the surface is clean.

Yes. It is!
Did you do those parts in a regular oven?
I am using a large toaster oven... I will get a bigger one in a few weeks... as long as it can handle 400 degrees it will work... note... if it has convection it will work better.
Yes. Just don't use your wife's.
That rim will fit in a normal oven ... looks like it's time to go shopping ;D

Anyone powder coated their rims yet? Just curious if anyone had issues doing it and if you guys stripped them down to the bare metal before doing it? I usually do small parts, all bare metal, and I was curious if anyone did the wheels without stripping the stock coat.
Considering doing my rims black since they came stock gray on my bike.

Well, he just said it would stick to chrome....

Ben
The chrome wheels are either a metallic powder or it's actually chrome dipped. I have the gray wheels which I believe are just powder. I'm just curious if anyone tried powder coating to the black/gray rims, not the chrome metal ones.
