So I really like the look of the LM air filter on the sanchez bike. I really don't like the idea of dropping almost 500 bucks on one that is black with the tip and adaptor. I think this is sort of nuts considering I've found the KN filters for about 30 bucks.

I plan on making my own using a simple aluminum 90, a flange that would work with whatever holes I make, and possible fiberglass adapter using the stock backing plate as a mount (not the whole thing just the part that screws to the actual throttle body.

So far the only problems I can see are... I have a DC welder, my roomate claims we can't do aluminum with this (he's the welder, I'm the controls/electric/ boiler inspector guru ;p). I have found lots of information supporting the idea of DC tig welding, especially in this small thickness of material. Making the adaptor out of fiberglass won't be hard, but I have priced the materials, and because I have to buy more than needed, the adaptor won't be to cost efficient, over 100 bucks in resin, gel coat, mat, and making a mold. If there is lots of interest I may be able to produce one in the 100 dollar range for the adaptor, and hopefully less for the cleaner.

I would like the help of all the forum members to try to find the filter, 90 (correct diameter and length, I don't have one to measure), and a flange. I know there are pleny of sites, but I would like to try to produce at least the adaptor for the filter for forum member to help save some money. I can't see it costing me over 100 bucks in labor to make a bead around a 2 inch flange or so.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

PS, the Stryker has been dismantled for the winter home paint project. I will be getting SPI primers and clears, and Nason base colors. With work, I'm only home 2 weeks till Christmas ( Thanksgiviing and Christmas week) and decided if I want it done before my spring BMW LS1 project I better get going.

Go on Ebay and search for Harley Air spikes... they run around $90.00, then all you really have to fab up is the adapter mount.... I would think the mount is the easy part. I do a lot of welding at home. Aluminum is not an easy task... it is super sensitive to contaminants... thin aluminum is the hardest of all. I'll look some more for adapter parts.

I did find this adapter http://www.pacificcoaststar.com/pcs/yamaha_air_spears.htm $131.00

I like the L&M products... but they are a bit over priced on all of their stuff. They were basically the 1st to produce stuff so they kinda gouge us. since there is more and more companies making STRYKER parts now... L&M prices will start to drop... then they will become competitive.

Not to throw a monkey wrench in your plan, but you roomate is right. You have to weld al. with AC. Sounds like a good plan though (if you can find an AC welder, or take it to a weld shop, it shouldn't be too much to have that welded up).

Natedog, that is the plan somethin like that, a short 90 a flange and the filter. To me $205 is nuts.

Straightjacket is it AC/DC? I have a $1500+, miller dc only stick or tig available to use.

My Lm experience so far:

So far I like the Lm stuff but I will say both sides of my new front fender showed signs of rubbing. I had primered it and installed having similar fit issues as others with one side too close in the back. After 80 miles, I had very light wear marks on both sides of the fender. I would like to note that I did cut the **** out of the back and have points. The fiberglass just has too much flex I think.

Anyone have problems with a passenger on the Lm rear fender? Fiberglass is not steel.

Straighjacket, I probably will have take you up on that then. Thanks!

I still haven't had time to get searching for usable parts, boss is a slave driver. I need the money to feed my addiction :)

Does anyone know what the inside diameter of the KN air filters for this?
