I just learned that horse riding is more dangerous than motorcycling. A university of Calgary study shows that statistically an experienced horse rider will have a serious accident requiring a trip to a trauma center after just over 2000 hours of riding while a motorcyclist will have a serious accident at over 7100 hours. I know this is just a stat and does not apply to an individual but it is food for thought. Next time someone tells me how "dangerous" it is to ride a motorcycle, I can say at least I don't ride a horse. http://medicine.ucalgary.ca/about/horseback

From someone that has both, motorcycles don't have a mind of their own. No matter how well trained horses are, they are still a wild animal. When my wife was having a lot of issues with one of her horses, the motorcycles were a good stress relief.

All animals are different, but some horses are very smart. We have one that if you leave his feed door open, he will open his neighbors door and let her out in a matter of a minute (if you are not watching him). Others are dumb as rocks.

But on motorcycles you have to worry about the other idiots on the road. So they both have their inherent risks.

I hope nobody thought I was saying that you shouldn't ride horses. It is just that I have never heard any one say don't ride horses because it is dangerous. I think riding a horse safely is not that risky an activity, nor is riding a motorcycle. I think it just adds an interesting perspective when some dough head says how dangerous motorcycles are.
