I got 52.5 mpg on my last tank of gas. This was about 80 % freeway type riding at 70-75 mph and the rest mixed riding with some stop and go. Yeah, I probably could have done better, but I wasn't consciously trying to ride conservately. Move over Prius and all other hybrids...I think I'm going GREEN. HaHa ::)

Ain't bragging if it's true! I've noticed better than average mpg as well on some of the longer rides where we average ~ 75 mph. Not quite 52, which is pretty **** good. More like 48mpg, but it's better than the projected mpg by Yamaha.

I seem to do a lot more MPG's useing non-ethenol 89 octane that I do with 10% ethenol 87 octane. With the later I only get around 35mpg and with the non ethenol 90 octane I average about 43 - 46 mpg.
That would be correct. ethanol has less energy than gasoline does. So it requires burning more. If you look at specs for an E85 vehicles when they burn gas they will be around 27 - 30 mpg but only 12-17 while on E85.

Ethanol is just a bad joke. If you do the math you end up burning just as much gas if not more so saying ethanol is enviromentally friendly doesn't make sense to me. If you want to see something truely eco friendly, check out bio-diesel made from used cooking oil.

Ethanol is Eco friendly because its from a renewable source. and If we could get it to catch on the price could be super cheap. The manufacturing of bio-diesel creates some bad side products. but now just using straight cooking oil is great except for the emissions is pretty bad. but at least your using a waste product.

I think the key phrase is could be. As long as the people selling the product can get the same, or higher, price, they will. As far as catching on, there are many more places that sell gas with ethanol than those that sell gas without ethanol. But, after reading this thread, I believe I may have found some local stations with ethanol free gas. I'm going to find out for sure tomorrow.

No mods on my bike. I weigh 170 lbs. so I'm not hauling around as much as some of you guys. I love the rush of accelleration as much as you do, but I don't wind it out in every gear. I use the power to pass slower moving vehicles and especially 18 wheelers when they pass me and then pull in front of me. I hate getting caught up in their vortex. When younger, I would draft them but that is a dangerous practice. Sure did like the feeling of being pulled along in the vacuum. Do not try this at home unless you are a professional rider on a closed course. HaHa

I've been keeping track since 1000 miles (after break-in) and my average has been 42 mpg. My lowest was about 38 mpg and my highest was about 45 mpg.

I'm a pretty low key rider most of the time. I rarely give the throttle a deep twist although I have been doing a bit more of it lately. What is that saying? "Power corrupts..."

What kills your mileage more than anything is city riding. The constant stop/go and subsequent run through the gears. The 52.5 mpg I got was on a 100 mile trip with only 2 stops. I have gotten to the point that I would rather not ride if I have to ride in city traffic. I'm spoiled now that I spend most of my time in NE AL where I can ride 25 miles without seeing more than 3 or 4 cars on the road. No stop lights either. This is very close to motorcycle heaven. ;D
