It finally happened. I have often wondered what would happen, how I would handle things if a stinging insect (wasp, bee, yellow jacket etc) somehow got inside my helmet, or up my sleeve or something.
Well, wouldn't you know, I no more then got my pretty new bike, and riding home on the freeway, a bee flew up my sleeve and promptly let me know IT didn't appreciate my sleeve getting in the way of it's flight path.
I had to ride for 3/4th of a mile before I could catch an offramp where it was safe to pull off to the side.
I did manage to get her pulled over, parked carefully, and then was shucking gear like mad lol toby asked me what was wrong... I showed him and he pulled the stinger out of my under arm... that sting was nasty, it hurt all up my arm and down my side and into my chest for a bit. I am not allergic to bees or wasps, and have now been stung by both, I will take the wasp over the bee any day.

Glad you got pulled over safely. There are worse places to be stung although I'm sure that was a tender spot. I have a friend who reminds me of Duddly in the movie Wildhogs. He wears shorts on hot weather and holds his knees away from the tank like nuttin is ever gonna happen. I told him that someday- he was gonna have a nasty surprise!!

I was riding down my road, in a tank top on my old crotch rocket....and a bee flew under my tanktop and stung me 3 times. (His **** stinger didn't break off!) I was all over the road trying to get it out at first before I pulled over and took the shirt off. That hurt

We were riding about two weeks ago and my wife had on a tank top. Well we pull away from the intersection and I see she pulls over. So I turn around and got back to her as she was frantically pulling up her shirt to get the stinging insect out. She ended up with four stings from the arm and across her chest. We had a few people stop to ask if we needed help...which was nice. Even the home owner in front of where we stoped came up and asked if we needed ice or anything else. After about 10 mintues we continued the last few miles to home. Needless to say she was a little worked up. Next time out she wore a tight t-shirt!

My first bee sting 40 some years ago was also while riding a motorcycle. I was stung on my face near my right cheek bone so technically he did not sting me, I ran into his rear end. And yes, it hurt.

I've met a few bees in my day. The worst was when a wasp got caught between my neck and my jacket collar. It wasn't shy about stinging.

Grasshoppers suck, too. I'm tired of those stupid things hitting me at full speed.

LOL yeah uhm, I will go sleeveless on really hot days, but shorts? I don't think so! I have already experienced a horde of yellow jackets inside my panties when I was younger and used to ride my horse bareback... and .. bare... me and my friends were galloping across an old logging flat, and the YJ's had made a nest in the ground under our 'race track'. Needless to say by the third lap they were NOT happy. We all galloped in a screaming horde down to the swimming hole and everyone down there heard us coming and baled out of the deep and, and 4 horses and a pony plunged in with riders yelling and shucking what few clothes we had on... I no more then got my pants down when 2 crawled out the legs...
I would really HATE to get even one up a pair of shorts at 80 mph lol

and just another reminder of why I wear the gloves, fullface and jacket. Hod one go up my jacket sleeve once - after that, gloves that cover the cuff were bought.

I carry an EpiPen in my saddle bags. I got stung a few days ago in the neck when a bee found its way under my chin strap. 60 to 0 in seconds then the made scramble for my pen. It's not much fun but I'm not giving up my bike.

Lots of bees here in Northwest Oregon. I get bees in my helmet several times a year & only been stung twice. My old helmet was a bit loose & the bees would walk around on my head until I'd stop & let them out very slowly. Sometimes I'd ride a few miles before finding a good stopping point but when they would crawl into my ear I stop right away.

EEK! I hate that! I've never been stung while riding a bike... I have only been stung while on horseback. But the first one was a doozy; wasn't sure what was happening at first. I thought I was having chest cramps? (I was 9) And after squeezing my chest and telling my mom how much my chest hurt, we found 3 wasps just taking their revenge. I finished the ride, but with a bag of ice for the major swelling.
and yes, it is stories like those on here that remind me even on a hot day, jacket and cuffed gloves. :)
Glad you got over safely!

Never had that problem on a bike, but once in a car. My brother just got his first car and decided to give my lift home from school. Had my arm out the window and a bee hit it and landed in my crotch. I asked him to pull over. When he asked why , I told him. His reply "Well just it and kill it." My reply while I am looking at him like he is on glue "PULL THE FRAC OVER" I was lucky enough not to get stung but, man what a close call.

I am thankful I am not allergic to stings... My arm is still pretty sore but it hasn't stopped me from putting almost 400 miles on my new stryker since last saturday! ;)

Lit cigarettes are the worst. Have had to duck on several occasions from idiot cagers just flicking them without looking. I have been stung by a bee while riding too. I was on my wifes old bike and had just picked it up from getting serviced was on the way back and all of the sudden I felt a burning sensation on my inner thigh. Looked down and saw the dead bee. **** thing stung me thru my jeans.
