I was driving west of St. Louis today on 44 highway and got off around Union at 50. When I came to the intersection on the north side of the road I saw a full size pickup with a harley completely in his front end.... I passed the wreck a few times on my bike but never saw the rider...

Later I found out as I passed and asked paramedics/fire, that he did not make it...

I know we all drive cars/ trucks too here, educate those around you to watch out for motorcycles. This guy got t-boned, not sure who's fault it was, it looks like both the bike and the truck were making left hand turns and smack....

Be safe guys, it was a sad day for me.

Its actually more the motorcycles responsibility to watch out. Just because you can see them that doesn't mean they can see you and having loud exhaust doesn't anything to do with it. I was on base and came up to a stop sign. It was a four lane road so there are a things gooing on. I stopped, waited for my turn a started to go. Luckily that day I wasn't in a hurry. I pulled off rather slowly. When I went about five feet a motorcycle turned in front of me. He was lined up perfectly with my "A" pillar. I waved and appollogized but I still felt bad even if it wasn't my fault. As riders we have to always be vigilant. Another area to watch out for is riding at the back courners of vehicles. And just because you think your bike is loud that doesn't mean they'll remember your there when they go to jump over.

Well all I can say is let it serve as a reminder, but also to remember that cars get into accidents every day, there are fatalities everyday, so its no great suprise if people can't see other cars, they will surely not be able to see us. Its a part of life...I lost my father in a auto accident, and many friends over the years too...but it is all just part of the deal.

So yes always be on notice, keep your head about you and stay focused on the ride or drive...Actually I had just met a really nice couple yesterday, harley folks. He said we all take the same risk..and that is why we are all brothers of the road.

Ride safe.

Down here in Florida there has been a campaign to "Ride Proud - Dress Loud" for some time, seems to be working.
The statistics are kind of bleak when you read them. The Sportbike guys seem to dress flashy as a matter of course. I think the us cruiser guys tend to be more conservative in our dress. I've had a couple close calls with my 11 yr old on the back. I now have a Neon yellow helmet and Twin Piaa horns to help with my "conspicuity".
