Ok, so I decided to adjust the preload on the shock since I had the wheel off for a tire change. Haven't been able to get it to move from the side cover access and had more room to work with the wheel gone. I wasnt sure what setting I was on and when i turned 2 clicks counter clockwise and it stopped moving so I figured I was at one end of the spectrum. Turned back about 6 clicks the other direction (clockwise) and the shock popped up a half inch or so like a jack in the box. Now it doesn't seem to turn in either direction.

I guess my main question is whether or not anyone knows if I broke it or if it's fixable by maybe recompressing the spring a bit and then screwing the adjustment collar back down. I'm sick about it honestly and am open to any suggestions, thanks.

On this type of shock it's really hard to break anything? If the tires out remove enough to see the shock. Spray some white grease on it to lube it up and make things turn easier. Get it to where you can see it and put it where you want. If your going with a bigger tireI'd start closer to the biggest bump that the adjuster pivots on.

You're probably right SJ. It seems impossible that I could break something by simply adjusting the shock. Just picked up the grease and going to get into it this morning. Thanks for the advice.

Look on page 3-29 of the service manual. Shows a picture of what is going on. That is only half of the shock, the other half is the same. You probably dropped off the last notch and now have to start over up-hill.

It is possible to screw off the adjustment ring and it is also possible to break the support stubs that the rings sits on, not often does this happen but it does I had the luck of having this happen to me on my dirt bike on different days and different bikes thankfully. Check it over really well before ridding or better yet take to dealer it should not jump that way especially when not on the wieght of the bike. As you mentioned you have the tire and wheel off.

Bingo Joe. You hit the nail on the head. After taking the battery box out of the way and getting a good look at the shock, I saw exactly what you just described. I had over rotated the collar and it jumped down the settings ramp to start all over. What a relief it was to see what was going on. Kind of embarrassing too

Great to hear its nothing too involved or costly. Yeah, with the tire there and everything else it's hard to see what the **** is going on. I moved mine recently but might go back down a notch. Have to ride a little more to decide. Hard to tell just what notch it is in because you cannot see the whole thing from one side!! Dealer/factory did not have it set at notch "4" like they said from what I could see and it was a little soft for me. But like I said I might have made it one notch too stiff.

Do you think you'll have everything put back together and be able to join us on Saturday?

I have it put back together, but I'm not sure how I feel about the 240 I just put on today. I like the look and the way it seems to absorb bumps better, but I'm not thrilled about how it leans now. I have to push it into turns more it seems. Debating whether to sell it to get a new 210 and start this nonsense all over again.

Is it a Dunlop 240? If so I might buy it if it becomes available. I have a Dunlop 240 on mine now and love it. Also the bike rides the way it should. I'm now always looking for a sixth gear anymore.

That sucks. You wanted a 240 and now you are going to go back to the 210. ???
