I picked up my new mistress yesterday around 5pm and by 5pm today she was completely apart... lol. Nothing too major as far as mods go, but just a few. And the best part was that not a penny was spent... lol. All parts used were parts I had laying around the garage.
Not 24 hours and she was already completely apart... including tank, rear fender, seat, etc.:

1) Rear fender eliminator with 05 R6 integrated tail light (was sent an extra one when I got the one for my R6 and decided to see how it would look). The plate 'mount' is temporary because I had to get the bike back together to head to Lake George tomorrow and had to get it legal. I will eventually figure something out, but this actually looks pretty good for now.

2) I had a few small LED strips left over from the R6 and I have always loved the look of LED's on a bike with chrome... especially when they are done correctly (no actual LED's visible). So I threw the 4 small strips I had left over onto the bike just to see if I'd like it before spending the money on more strips. So far I kinda like it. The switch is hidden under the tank on a small quickly made plastic bracket.

3) Last but not least... my favorite. I pretty much spoiled myself by having the garage door opener on the R6 and it was getting pretty annoying having to get off the bike to open the door every time I got home. However, I didn't want to mount any buttons and wanted to keep everything as factory looking as possible. So I searched and searched until I found a garage door remote that used a 12 volt battery. It happened to be a 3 button remote so I took one of the buttons and soldered the 2 terminals coming off the switch together (top right of pic).

I then soldered 2 wires to the battery 'terminals' of the remote (red to positive, black to negative), drilled 2 small holes in the end of the case, and ran the wires through the case so it would be put back together.

I tucked the opener up under the plastic panel at the front of the tank so its 100% hidden away but doesn't have too much in front of it to interfere with the signal. The wires ran up along the factory harness and into the headlight housing.

And finally, I wired the positive and ground into the headlight ground and high beam wire.

So now when I pull up to the garage I just have to simply flash my high beams quick and it will power up the 'shorted' garage door remote which sends the signal to open the door. Because the remote only sends one signal no matter how long you hold the button, I can leave the high beams on or just flash them. The door will only activate once per 'flash'.

I am very happy with how everything came out so far. I will probably pick up a few more LED strips eventually but for now I want to enjoy her for a while.... and save up for the Vance & Hines. I just had to take care of those few items because they were bugging me.. lol.

That's a pretty cool trick klarowe...looks like you know exactly what you're doing. Congrats on the bike!

Nicely done. When I did my garage door opener on my CBR I hooked it up to the headlight switch too, but I just built a momentary relay for the 12v stuff and left the opener powered by the 3v battery. Got lazy on the stryker and just hid a switch by the petcock under the tank.

If there is one thing I know... its 12 volt wiring.. lol. I was the installation manager at Circuit City for about 6 years before they closed down. I actually got a new job (my current job) 2 weeks before they announced they were closing. I do however tend to go overboard sometimes. On my R6 I decided to install a fully functional 2 way automotive alarm system on the bike... including the built in remote start (yes, I could remote start my bike.. lol). The alarm was triggered by the kickstand, the ignition, as well as a mercury switch so if the bike was even up-righted with the alarm armed, it would trigger. The remote start was connected directly the neutral safety so it was impossible to start in gear (for obvious safety reasons). Wiring comes very natural to me... lol.

On my R6 I was lazy and did just a basic 3v battery operated remote running off a button mounted on my handlebar switch. It worked, but the only button I could find with small enough terminals was a HUGE button so it looked really out of place. That's why I decided to go with the 12volt remote this time running off the headlight switch.

Show off!

Seriously though, nice work. I'm impressed. I'm tired of having to get off my bike and going in the front door and through the house to open the garage door.

I said the same thing. Some of that was to appease my wife. I haven't done any real radical mods, other than pipes, air kit and auto tune. But I keep doing little things like grips, foot pegs, etc. oh well, gotta make it my own.

Exactly how I see it. If I leave it 100% stock then what makes it 'my' bike and how does it different from the next bike out of the dealer??? I like to make my vehicles my own. If somebody doesn't like it then sucks for them because if I like it, I do it.

no kidding man that's exactly what i have to do as well. I'm just not too good with wiring stuff up/understanding all that stuff so it is what it is.

If theres enough interest, i can make up the 'control boxes' with the circuit board wiring done and, detailed install instructions. The remotes themselves ar around $50 though so id have to get at least $75 each to include the rest of the materials. If anyone is interested let me know.

Edit: I found some other options online so I could probably do it for $60 shipped.
