Dealership told me to not take them off. I haven't but I think it would look good without them. I know why they're there but are they really necessary?

The low and mean bikes don't have them. If your gonna have a rider be careful thier pant leg dosent get caught.

I don't have them because I like the look of it better without. But Schim is right. you need them with passengers, plus you do run the risk of getting a rock or something cought in there. and the belts are not cheep.

Somewhere on this site is a posting from a rider that got a stone caught up
in his belt. Would lean toward keeping them in place given the cost of a
new belt.

I removed the top one, but kept the lower. Looks good!

I removed the lower when I installed my 250, with my luck I'm sure it'll wind up costing me but no issues so far. My dealer told me even with the guard you can get crap up in there and in his opinion I'm better off without it. He said they have had many belts fet damaged from stuff getting hung up between the lower belt guards and the belt but rarely between the upper belt guard and the belt. He felt I should keep the upper since I do occasionaly ride with a passenger.

I had a rock wedge into my belt and motor with ALL the guards on! I was thinking of making something smaller and more open on the back side to protect the passenger. The rock went in the top guard! New belt $680.00!

I cut mine up enought to fit it with the 250 , not sure if there is enought left to get sothing stuck, I did put it on for pasanger safty.

i have to agree on removal of lower cover. my sportster has no lower guard. lower coming off today..... IMO oneless piece of worthless plastic.
