I just bought a 2013 raven and have decided to go with the V&H staggered in black. How hard are they to install myself? I am pretty fair at wrenching on things, it's just that I have never worked on a bike before.

pretty simple and straight forward. i have the Cobra, but i imagine they are very similar. First time i did it took me 2 hours. after tearing them off and on for various reasons i can now do it in about 30-45 minutes.

i hear its better to wear gloves so you dont get any skin oil on the pipes (to prevent premature rusting). but not 100% sure if that will happen. just better to be safe than have some rust.

I put an old comforter on the ground to switch out pipes so there are no scuffs on the stock or aftermarket.

I really didn't think it would be hard but not having worked on a bike before I figured I would ask. Maybe some good tips out there or some part of the job that might require a special tool that I don't have. But thanks for the reply

Long needle nose pliers for when you drop a bolt somewhere your fingers will not fit into. And wearing latex gloves is a good Idea to keep fingerprints down to a minimum. Blue painters tape to protect frame from scratches, only necessary on the front down tube where you may hit it with a wrench. Blue loc-tite for all fasteners other then the four that attach the cylinder heads. Hope this helps you out..

Thanks to everyone who replied to the question. In the end I believe I will pay to have it done. I'm out of the country and the bike is still brand new and at the dealer. I will take possession when I get home. I can't wait to ride my new stryker.

Sometimes holding out at the dealer can work for you and should never work against you. When the sales guy keeps calling you and knows he's got one he needs to close, that is when you negotiate upgrades. Most the time they will give you a break on labor. Good luck with that..... Always get a young salesman, they don't normally have a mortgage.
by the way, until you take delivery your not obligated to honor the contract. You can still negotiate (upgrades), don't let them tell you otherwise.
