When I park my bike in the garage at the end of a ride I leave the key in the ignition and just shut it off. Well I guess when I rode it fri I neglected to shut it off. So went out to ride this morning and the battery is totally dead. I am not sure I can jump start it with my truck. Is that an option? I had a trickle charger hooked up to it for about 6 hours and didn't seem to do anything. What are my options here?

you can jump start it with your truck but make sure your truck is not running when you do it or you can damage the rectafier or stator, the vehicle altanator puts out to much amps when running.

My neighbor had an extra hook up for a battery tender. I installed it and have it plugged it. It is for harleys so I hope it doesn't hurt my bike LOL. Hopefully it will have it charged up by the time I have to head into work in the morning. Looks like a battery tender is on my shopping list now LOL

Have someone push you and pop the clutch in second gear.

If the battery is completely dead I don't think this will work. I have done it successfully with a fried battery cell but couldn't do it when the battery was completely drained. IMO it is worth the $20 for a trickle charger.

Yup, you need enough juice for the fuel pump to pressurize the system. Not like the old days, lol. Pick up a small 6-10 amp battery charger. Not real expensive and great to have around when you need it.

well the trickle charger isn't working. Not sure if its because its a harley one or the battery is just that fried. So i pulled the battery and going to take it to the dealership tomorrow and have them check it and see if they can put a charge on it.

I did the same thing with mine and a jump from a non-running car started it fine. Granted the battery was less than 6 months old but if you jump it the battery itself should't matter because the juice is coming from the car battery. Any battery worth its salt should be able to take 1-3 deep six's even though of course you shouldn't do that :)
I did afterwards put it on the Optima-4 for a day till it was fully recovered but before that I rode all afternoon without an issue. It then spent a winter on the charger and is in its 2nd season with no negative effects I can see. I'm hoping/expecting to get 4 years out of it but then again things on the MC don't seem to last as long as they do on a car :(

Every situation is different so it might be best to get a test. Cars do a GR8 test which is a great indicator of battery problems.

So took it to autozone to have it tested and they said it was too dead for them to even run the test. So I know have it hooked up to my trickle charger with it unhooked from the bike and going to try and be patient and let it run for 24 hours.

Good luck. I know the Optimate claims to be able to recover batteries from the "beyond" and goes through a desufflicating process if needed. It runs the diagnostic to determine if that is needed and then runs it again at the end to determine the type of charging needed and if it can indeed be charged. One time on another battery that I was pretty sure was fried I got excited(started the 1st phase) but after doing that it said no dice on the charging :( Still it was interesting to watch it go through the process. The optimate is 3-4 times as much as say a battery tender junior but I figured if it can do 1/2 of what they claim I'll be ahead of the game after 2-3 batteries.

How old is the battery anyway and are you in a hot place like Texas? I know those guys get like 2 years from a battery which is terrible but the heat is vicious on batteries.

M ine was dead as could be. Lights would not come on. My trickle charger wouldn't charge it either. Put it on a regular battery charger on boost and away she fired up.

After about 12 hours on the trickle charger she lives. Hesitated a little bit at first then fired up. I now have her on the battery tender I borrowed from my neighbor until I can pick up my own in the next few days. I am happy then a camel on Wednesday.

Glad to hear it came back to life and LOVE that commercial. It cracks me up every time I see it.

After a day or so on the battery tender it should be fine and not need anything else special during the riding season.
