I didn't go with an extended warranted. My reasoning was that even though $600+ isn't much considering what the coast of repairs could be, I'm banking on the fact that it's a brand new vehicle and the quality of Yamaha has proven itself over many years and many products and it should not have any major issues for many years and tens of thousand of miles if not hundreds of thousands. Of course there is always the possibility that parts may fail or go bad prematurely but I'll keep my fingers crossed. lol.
On the other hand I just bought a used vehicle even though it's not real old, 2006 Honda Ridgeline RTS it is used and it's our main transportation and to have the peace of mind knowing that it will be fixed without a penny out of my pocket I bought a very extensive expensive warranty that covers everything for then next 4 years, electrical, drive train, towing, car rental, hotel stay if out of town and meals while it's being fixed etc. $3,600. Really expensive but ads only $15 a month to my payments. Got it for $14,900. Got a good deal considering they are going for $19,000+ with the same mileage on them. Figured since I got it for 3 or 4k less than I could find one any where else in Ca. I would get that warranty to go with it. Even though it is a Honda and are noted for their reliability. Peace of mind that I know I can go any where for the next 4 years knowing all it will coast me is gas and oil changes.
BTW for a 255 hp 4 wheel drive truck with a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs and load of 3/4 of a tun it get's near 25 mpg freeway. To me that's pretty impressive. My little Malibu that I used for a trade in got 30 mpg.
Anyway back to the warranty thing. to me peace of mind is priceless when it comes to your main transportation that you depend on especially if you live on a functional ranch in the middle of nowhere as I do. You never know when you might have to evacuate from fire or what ever. got to be ready to go at the drop of a hat . The Stryker and other bikes are recreational luxury vehicles and if they break down they can sit until I can afford to fix them. Not a necessity to spend unnecessary money on them.
