I introduced my 9 year daughter to the wonderful world of motorcycling today. SHE LOVED IT. Here's the thing for the first time out I let her wear her bicycle helmet (because of the fit). We just puttered around the neighborhood never getting out of second gear at idle. Now it's when can go again. Can we go can we. Tomorrow???
I have to get her some gear mainly a good helmet. The thing is she is 9 and GROWING as kids tend to do. I don't want to drop a $100 or so on a helmet that she may only get to use a few times before she grows out of it. On the other hand I don't want to buy one to large thinking she grow into it and god forbid have her need the protection of a Properly fitting helmet.
So those with kids who have taken them riding with you a little advice please
Thanks

I got my daughter an extra small full face helmet. I think it was only $39.. and is DOT. It fits her pretty good. She just turned 8 yesterday. Haven't taken her for a ride yet. I did take my older daughter , she is 23, and she was able to put on the extra small helmet. I think you will find that girls heads don't grow that much, or maybe my 8 year old is just gonna have a gigantic head when she is older. Lol.

Both my kids (10.5 & 13 yrs old) have Bilt helmets from Cycle Gear. They have children's helmets and are perfect for the amount of use that they get. In fact we just use them today as we went to indoor cart racing. I picked them up for $49 and $59 on sale and I just checked their website and they do not appear to be on sale right now. Their sale cycle seems to run about every 60 days or so. My is 10.5 yrs old and wears a Large in the childs where as my daughter wears an XS in an adult.

In fact I bought my son their armored jacket "for kids" in a small. He has grown so much since January I think he has outgrown it and he only wore it once. I am looking to sell it and get the medium. Their kids jacket is a nice jacket with elbow and shoulder padding and looks to be abrasive resistant for the price. I felt so much safer with him wearing it. Something to consider http://www.cyclegear.com/CycleGear/...-Waterproof-Motorcycle-Jacket/p/41708_59971_2

I just went into a local shop and picked up a fairly cheap kids helmet. Heck, I don't even remember the size.. but it fit two of my kids fairly well. Haven't used it since last year some time. Before that they used their dirtbike helmets a few times.

Seems to me there's not really a lot of options for kids helmets for street bikes. I think the one I bought was one of only a handful I could find in town, and I went to several shops. I think I ended up buying at Cycle Gear.
