sdsting: I wasn't crazy about the skull either. It was either that or one that said Kuryakan. I am going to machine up something different.

Stryker73: Yea, it sits off maybe 3/8" to 1/2". This is necessary to accommodate the gasket on the back side that goes against the intake and also the taped holes
for the backing plate to hold the filter and housing.

Looks great, My concern with this intake would be water getting in if you get caught in a rain shower, comments?
They say if the filter is oiled properly you aren't supposed to have to worry. My previous bike I had an open filter bootleg intake and no matter how well it was oiled, it would suck in rain water. I see so many open air filters out there and they are on bikes being ridden rain or shine, so it has to be okay.
Just didn't work out for me. So much so I went with a cover on my S&S intake.
I love the look on the open air intakes. Living on Canada's wet coast, I just couldn't see going that route again on this bike due to my previous experience
