John Hermann's 34th Annual Wildcat Canyon Ride
April 15, 2012
Giovanni's Pizza Restaurant
9353 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, San Diego, CA
Back in 1978, local motorcyclist John Hermann was riding over Wildcat Canyon when he was forced off the road by a drunken indian. After knockign the bike over, the indian proceeded to beat John about the head and shoulders with a pipe. Luckily, even then John wore full faced helmets and armored riding gear, and he had friends who came back to see what happened to "the fast guy."
Sometime after that, John was asked about going over that road again but admitted to feeling some trepidation. Some friends volunteered to escort him, and voila, we have the annual Wildcat Canyon Ride.
This is the 34th year that John "King of the Alps" Hermann has asked for an escort through Wildcat Canyon. And there is never a shortage of brave, willing riders who are prepared to put life, limb and motorcycle on the line to assist John. No, it's not that dangerous anymore - but it was. And we remember that day by participating in this ride to show that motorcyclists are not going to have their day ruined by anything!
Breakfast starts at 8 AM and the riders officially start leaving at 9:30. Last year there were well over 100 riders. Come early and enjoy the spectacle.
