Hey to all of you that have done some week long trips I have a couple of questions.
1) Out west, did you have any issues with fueling up? I know there used to be several highways between Cali and Nevada, Arizona and Utah that would go 210 miles between gas stations.
2) Comfortability, when you did your trip, did you have a back rest?

Here's the deal, the dealership I bought my bike from is trying to talk me into a Goldwing. I love my Stryker, but there have been some day trips where I wish I had more back support and having all the bells and whistles is appealing.
I haven't been on any week long trips partly because the thought of stopping every 2 hours for fuel sucks and I have a couple of buddies that ride and they will take a weeklong trip every year but they all have touring bikes. And my club is doing a cross country run to Virginia next month and I can't see myself doing a coast to coast on the Stryker.

Opinions are welcome!

I can't even ride 2 hours without needing to stop :(, **** stock seat. I would probably want a passenger to help the back or a backrest for a week long trip for sure.

I just did almost 8,000 (20 days) on my Raider since both bikes are very similar I thought I'd chime in....I have a riders backrest, the guy that went with me doesn't have one but he used his sissybar bag as one....as for gas stops example: we left Carson City NV on Hwy 50 across NV into Utah...on that stretch of road don't pass a gas station or you won't make it to the next one there were a couple places where the stations were over 100 miles apart.......after a couple hours I'm ready to get off for a couple minutes anyway plus with the heat out west you would be advised to stop often for a water break.

So it sounds like a good seat with backrest and planning the trip to know where the gas stations are is the answer.
And honestly $2k (for various modifications) is easier on my wallet than $16k (for a new bike)

on my trip to vegas we rode from Oklahoma City thru Aluquerque to Monumnet Valley and over to the Grand canyon and then on to Vegas. The only time we almost had a gas issue was leaving Albuquerque with only about 1/2 tank in all our bikes, we quickly realized the next gas staion on our route was a little over 75 miles west so we decided not to chance it and doubled back a few miles for gas, from then on we fueled up about every 100 miles and never had any issues. Ass breaks is the key to long trips, I did the ride on my stock seat and we took ass break about every 50-60 miles so with gas breaks we were stopping pretty much once an hour for 5-10 minutes. Oh, and we took a lot of picture breaks as you will find some sure enough scenic shots you won't want to miss.

Nice thing about google maps is you can look up gas stations and it ill tell you the distance between them along the route

Don't know that you would have to spend that much...but you've got the idea
It would be the seat ($795), pipes ($700), Fuel Programmer ($500) that's $2K right there.
