They're real easy to take off. The speedo cover has one screw on each side, and the ignition switch cover has two screws on the back side (under the handlebars). The light fixture has a screw on each side, unplug the bulb, then three bolts inside the shell. Scuff up the chrome with some fine grit sand paper, and paint them however you want. I actually have mine all apart right now.

I've done all my chrome except the ignition, headlight, and the back fender struts. Those are all next. Seems every weekend I have parts laying around drying.

My bike is the red one and the back fender struts are original black or very dark gray, if I understand the parts you are talking about. I like the way this bike comes standard and don't want to make any changes other than the floorboards because I'm so short and the sissy bar/back cushion and a luggage rack so I can carry the rainsuit, puncture kit and so on. I do like that radiator cover with the chin but the exchange rate between our Rand and your Dollar means it could cost me half a months income to get here and then I would want it colour coded the same red and there goes the other half of my income.
