Louder is better: as a dirt biker ,car racer ,and even my jetski has a modded exhaust -for the appropriate places . I live in the beautiful hills of Wisconsin along a scenic curvy road . Every weekend during the summer assholes with loud exhausts on their bikes have to go enjoying the scenery starting at 7:00 A.M. . If it isn't the HD crowd it's the frikkin crotch rockets wheelieing by . Our bedroom has a 7 mile view that is beautiful -does anyone know how the too loud exhaust resonates and destroys the serenity ? I may be getting too old and cranky but when you mod your bike consider all implications .

I'm not sure what your point is, you start off by writing louder is better, and then writing about the assholes riding by your house at 7am, which has to suck. I live on a lake in Washington, and I have jerks on their jetskis with modded pipes riding by early in the morning which sucks too.

Try installing windows on your house and keeping them closed ;D Just kidding! Just my bent sence of hummor. "Load is Better" is the motto of the HD crowd. They believe that load exhaust makes it safer to drive because people hear you from a distance. But in the motorcycle courses that I have taken, it has been proven that they make no difference. Just respect your surrounding and ease off on the throttle in given areas.

I disagree. I do think louder is safer because people hear you coming up on them in traffic and they know you're there. Plus you can rap on the throttle and give them some indication if need be.

I have loud pipes. Loud enough that I've startled the **** out of people walking into a store at about 200 feet away. Loud enough that everyone turns to look when I'm done fueling up at a pump. This was all intentional.

I do however leave my neighborhood at around 5:30am and when I do I try keep it in neutral as much as possible to keep the noise down. I try to respect that people are sleeping and keep a different schedule than I do, but when I'm on the main roads I open it up and make as much noise as possible.

Desiree has actually told me she can feel the pop of my exhaust against her chest when I'm decelerating and she's following behind.

I am definitely respectful of my surroundings when it comes to something like
this, but........I do see the benefits to having louder pipes for grabbing attention
When needed. Someone veering into your lane.....vroom vroom, cut you off......vroom
vroom, @asshole! Lol.....you get the point.

I knew I was going to open a bag of worms , I see the use of loud to allow for the safety aspect that makes a lot of sense even that most of the loudness is heard from behind the vehicle emitting the sound . I do love the sound of uncapped headers of a good street race and have done all of the things that piss people off but :why can bikes have loud exhaust when a car with bad mufflers gets a ticket . I am a bigot as I said I'd never own another road bike also . Just some fuel for a good heated debate !

exactly.....its depending on each individual state. People do get
tickets for loud pipes, but if you are generally respectful....I think
its all good. Phil pisses me off all the time with his....and they are
loud when he gets on it. He rattles my eardrums....I have to get on
to him if there are little kids present because I dont think its fair
to expose lil ones to it.

Agree completely! I like the loudness but without the popping decels, but I realize that we all have different opinions.

My motto is the loudest bike rides in the back:) But i love loud bikes, i do not think you are going to change anyones opinion about loud exhaust. It is how we make our presence known to the world, and quiet bikes just do not seem as cool.
