I recently put on a forward control extension kit and I don't know if its me being overly critical, but it seems now when i really push her the shift into second is a really loud clunk. Has anyone else noticed this or that the transmission is just overtly loud?

I have the scootmods extensions and other then the normal shift noise as before haven't heard anything. Usually the noise is into first. Check your linkage make sure it isnt binding.

Linkage is good, no binding. It isn't doing it when I just take it easy, just when I really goose the throttle. Much like the clunk into first if you are above 20km/hr. Thanks for the speedy responses.

Just a piece of advice. Don't "baby" your shifts. Make sure the clutch free play adjustment on the handlebar is correct and shift firmly after you have pulled the clutch lever in completely. Otherwise, you will damage the forks in your transmission. It helps to slip the clutch a little on the 1st to 2nd shift so you don't have to wind it out in first so much. The 1st to 2nd gear is a little too widely spacd for the torque of this engine.

Yup, I ended up having to adjust my clutch lever. The first service was done and they went nuts with my clutch over tighting it so I loosened it but never tested it. When I did finally ride, it was to loose and had the issue from first to second, made the adjustment and now it's fine.

They did the same thing on my first service too. I ended up taking some slackup in the clutch cabling, but they went nuts and I noticed they went even farther. After I reading the thread I'm about to put it back to where I had it as I'm thinking it seems like it's clunking or loud shifting into 2nd for me now too. I wish they actually took some slack up in the throttle, as for my taste there is too much play. I guess I'll take care of that when I put the grips on.

It's a quick adjustment for the throttle, mine had a little play then got rediculously loose. Over the course of the break in I think I had to adjust it a good 5 times, now it's perfect.

Mine clunks really good into 2nd. But the dealer said the Stryker is notorious for it (actually he said most Yamahas are) Told me guys bring the bikes in all the time worried about it and they check it out and everythign is fine. Apperantly he said that there was a service notice about it from yamaha. It supposedtly gets better after the break in service. Mine is getting hers this weekend i'll let you know.

Get louder exhaust and ride it. Seriously- it will get a little better over time, but is the nature of the beast. I have heard Victorys are the same and a few Hondas.

Yup, second seems to be a bit of a beast shifting into, especially down shifting. I assumed it was just a normal thing.

A yea, I remember this, it's like 11 said, the shift into 2nd will mellow with the miles. Down shift to 1st when your around 15mph, that will make a big difference. I usually downshift pretty quick and hold in neutral with the clutch in until I'm just about to stop (around 5mph) I put just a little pressure and 1st slips right in, without feeling or hearing it. Takes a little practice but then becomes habit
