You can't always rely on that sensor. Best thing is to reset the trip odometer when you fill up and when you hit about 130 miles...refill. If the light comes on...its a bonus. Personally I have not had any issues yet with the light coming on, but I know a lot of people have.

I have gotten 150 miles on a tank and someone else ran out of gas at 170, but there are a lot of facotrs involved.

Just had a discussion with a guy at work about this. You should allways go buy the miles on the trip odo, it really is your best guess. Combining the fuel guage with the odo and how your riding will let you know when to fill.

If your light comes on,fill it up! I parked mine after the light coming on, and it reset or something? By the time it came back on, I was pushing to the station! I've said it before,it's realy hard to look cool pushing your bike,,, even if it is badass:tsk:

I think it does get confused if you turn the bike off while its in the fuel countdown mode and won't reset. Considering that's less than 20 miles of fuel left and you'd should be "concerned" at this point, if you get caught and run out I'm going to have to lump this in the "pilot error" category :)

To the OP, if you really want to see if the whole low fuel sequence works put some extra gas in something sturdy and bring it along in case things really don't work. Then fill up and reset the odometer and ride till it should switch to "fuel" view(assuming you are in something else like odometer mode). Probably happens around 120 miles or so at 1/4 full or 1 gallon. When the main tank is empty and you are on the reserve under the seat tank is when the low fuel light is supposed to come on. That's like 1/4 gallon.

The manual probably does a better job explaining this than me.
And to quote someone else from before: switching to fuel view = look for fuel, low fuel light = get fuel NOW!!!

Pushing sucks (roughly 640 lbs; a little lighter than usual since you are out of gas!!) and you can always call a friend or the wife for gas but be prepared to eat **** at every opportunity they get for a long time

Many people religiously fill up at 1/4 tank and that is probably the smart way to do things. I ran it low a few times just to make sure it worked OK but it does create a "pucker" moment if you aren't in familiar territory and near a gas station.
