About a half dozen times I have found myself coming to a stop or already stopped and trying to downshift into first and it won't change gears. Sometimes I've been able to get it to downshift by trying over and over and/or rolling back and forth a bit after stopping. The other day even that didn't want to work. That time I noticed the neutral light came on about 2 seconds AFTER I had last touched the shifter.

Anyone else expiencing this?

Thanks.

I had this prob but make sure that you are downshifting to 1st when at least 25 miles per hour or less for safety reasons and also smoother shifting.

Adjust clutch cable if tampered with or already about 6000 miles or more. The manual also states that you may have to rev a little to change gears I case difficult to shift at the moment. Not exact word but definitely addressed in manual around the break in or gear shifting sections of manual.

After install of tunner my 1st gear will last till almost 40 miles per hour before redline but then if I shift at 40mph then my gears may grind. I would have to wait till decals to 35 to 30 for smoother shift into gear 2.

I have notice smoother shift when shifting according to manual
Stated but impossible with how this bike performs

Not if this is the same issue but worth trying

Thanks. I had been intentionally shifting into first only when I got to about 10 or 15 mph to reduce the first gear clunk. I'll try shifting earlier and see if it changes how often I have this. The other day I had trouble with both up and down shifting even while at a stop. It's very alarming to be at a stop light and unable to get into the correct gear.

Thanks, again.

I've found that this bike needs every bit of lever action you can get for clutch to work smoothly. Make sure you do not have too much Freeplay in your clutch lever. Adjust for only the minmal amount. Try it you'll like it!

I had adjusted the clutch cable adjustment out a turn and a half a month or 2 ago to try to effect the first gear clunk. So I don't have any slop, that I can detect anyway, in the clutch. I just dropped it off for the 12 month service today, unexpectedly. I'll see if they do anything that changes this. I'll also try shifting a bit earlier, per the earlier suggestion and might try some more experimenting with the clutch adjustment.

On the contrary to what some of you guys are saying, I have never experienced any shifting problems of any kind.
I only recently adjusted the play in my clutch at over 7,000 miles. When I picked my bike up they had it adjusted so the friction zone started to grab almost immediately which I wasn't used to and thought it was to loose. But decided I like the immediate response and control it gave me and how easily it went into gear. So I left it that way. It made a clunk sound going into first and still does to this day but never had any affect to the ease of shifting and has not changed. Maybe my bike is an exception with the easy shifting but I think it performs perfectly. If your or any ones bike does not perform like mine then I would think it needs some kind of adjustment

For me, the problem has been fairly infrequent. It just happens every no and then and ALWAYS at low speed. I never have trouble at any moderate our faster speed. Even at low speed, most of the time, I have no shifting trouble and I have almost gotten rid of the clunk. I'm wondering if getting rid of the clunk caused this issue. I'll be doing some more adjusting if the dealer doesn't do it for me during the 1 year maintenance.

Thanks for the input.

When I took my bike in for the 600m service I mentioned that I was having a bit of trouble getting into 1st gear so please check that for me. When I got it back the mechanic said it was a bit low on oil and that probably effected the shifting. I think he was right because I didn’t have that problem after the service. Since then I do my own oil changes and frequently check the oil level.

I never thought of that.
