Made it back to Utah yesterday after 2000 miles. Glad I made the trip and very satisfied with the new ride. Indiana to Denver was fairly dull and long stretches of Interstate. I thought about taking side roads, but simply concluded that Kansas is just going to be Kansas. No offense.

However, on the last day I really had the opportunity to test limits. Started the day at 11,000 feet and really cold. But the ride from Silverthorne, CO to Steamboat Springs was a lot of fun. Additionally, I rode through the flaming gorge and about 4 other National parks. Top speed was achieved...briefly. And I suspect I am goint to have to get steel reinforced heels on my boots. I was unable to take switchbacks at the normal speeds I am used to but I did feel like a [email protected] scraping pegs on nearly every sweeper!

The bike looks amazing and I think the previous owner did fantastic and tasteful mods.

Next step is another oil change and forward controls. Being 6'3" justifies the latter, yeah?

Here are the final Statistics:
Miles traveled: 2026
Time used: 3 days
Underwear used: 2 pairs
rain squalls: 2
Bugs Killed: 56,672
Bugs swallowed: 3
Truckers given the bird: 5
Hookers buried in the desert: 0
Cost: ???
Will I do it again: [email protected] Yeah!

Sounds like a great ride.

We are preparing for a similar journey come June 10th ... we're looking at 2900 miles - Alberta to Nevada City

You are a brave man, Uglee Mann. I don't believe I could do that kind of trip anymore but I did ride from GA to CO & NM in '73 when I was 25. Back then it was on a Honda 450 with no windscreen so I ate some bugs too. What I would have given for a Stryker back then. I enjoyed your pics and account of the trip. To put things into perspective, how old are you and besides the lack of highway pegs, how comfortable or uncomfortable was the ride ?

Hey Canyon,

To put it into perspective: I was a quite a bit more comfortable than my last cross country excursion. In '07 I bought an 87 Supermagna (I still feel that this was an incredible machine) and rode from NY to San Jose, CA. By day six, my butt was really sore. But I found a way to compensate. I rode about 30 mile in "cruiser position" and the next 30 in "sport bike" position (legs on back pegs and laying over tank). I did the same position swapping on this run and it really helps me go the distance when I need to.

Additionally, I am 37, 6'3" and 170 lbs. In other words, dead sexy!

Nice you forgot oil changes and % hour energy shots. :-\
I just did the oil change today and it looked very fair. I did have a few red bulls, as far as percentages go.... about 78% of daily caloric intake can be attributed that nectar of the geeks.
