Did you check your manual? On pages 4-5 and 4-11 it clearly states that when only one segment remains on the gauge there is 1.32 US Gallons left. I'd say a safe bet is about 40 miles until you're completely empty but for the sake of your fuel pumps health I'd recommend filling up as soon as possible after you reach one segment on the fuel gauge.

Oh the gaslite does come on when you have only E on the gauge and only secondary tank left to go.

This is very good information. Considering from my work the closest gas station is 40 miles. If I ever forget to get gas and the light comes on at work I know im pushing. I noticed a petcock on the bottom of the tank or at least what I think is a petcock. I haven't really looked at it. does it have a reserve setting? or is it just on/off?

My display flips over to the 1/4 tank mark when I am down to a fourth of a tank. The light comes when the level still reads a 1/4 tank but about twenty or thirty miles later than the first display switch. I ran mine 17 miles with the warning light on and it took 3.4 gallons. Today it came on and I rode an additional 12 miles and it took 3.26 gallons. My guess would be about 40 "light throttle" miles when the light comes on...

careful guys, my light came on the other day and i was in no man's land just out riding around enjoying the day listening to my music. I took it really easy and as i was pulling in to a gas station with one 22.8 miles since the light came on it started to sputter. I quickly flip it off an coasted in. I had to try and start it 4 times but on the 4th it fired up. Gave myself a little scare. I'm not very mechanical so I called my local dealer and the guy said I hadn't hurt anything but to be careful.
