I went camping this weekend at the top of Angeles crest highway (real twisty mountain road popular with the sport bikes) and saw no less than 200 motorcycle on the drive, mostly sport bikes. But I did see a few choppers and Harley's and I'm wondering if you guys ride your Stryker in the twisty mountain roads and how it handles in that situation?

I run Ortega Highway and Big Bear all the time. I often find myself scraping my pegs HARD at ~30mph. Therefore I can't keep up with the sport bikes. But then I would have bought a sport bike if I wanted to do those sort of things. ;D

I know there are a lot of aftermarket pegs for the bike, would any of them reduce scraping?

great question, now that you brought it up im curious, too. and if the scootmod's help of hinder the clearance of the peg before it drags.

i wouldent say the pegs are the limiting factor but more of a good warning before the limit.... lol

I think the scoot mod makes them stick out a little more, so I would think it would make them drag a little sooner. I have the scoot mod, but got them right after I got my bike, was still getting used to it, so don't know.

It handles surprisingly well in twisties for what it is. The road to my house is 30 miles with 600 or more curves and some 18 hairpin turns and at least 100 turns you can't go more than 25 mph on. It takes an hr to travel that 30 miles. The first 8 miles you go from 125 above sea level to 4,000 feet in elevation then back down to 500 feet in 7 miles then back up to 3,000 feet in the next 15 miles. I've made that ride on my Stryker in 45 minutes before I lowered it 2.25" I have a 240 and the biggest problem is not the pegs scrapping but the tail pipe and the mount will scrape if I hit a bump in a right hand turn.

I love the way the Stryker handles the twisties. My boys love to ride behind me in my Stryker close to sunset. They say the light show from the pegs scrapping is awesome. The 240 rear tire did reduce the scrapping a bit.

I even scrapped my exhaust once going thru the twisties with my wife on the back.

Wow! Did the exhaust scrape before the pegs? And how much is the handling affected with a passenger?

I'm doing three sisters in two weeks. The road that is. Not as fun, but definitely thrilling.

Yep like Toby said the Stryker handles extreemly well for what it is. If you are used to carving up switch-backs on a sportbike then your first impression when riding the Stryker is how cumbersom it is to throw into the turns. You can’t expect it to “drop” into the turns the way a sport bike does effortlessly. That being said it handles extreemly well for a cruiser. I’m VERY impress at how stable the bike is in turns at very high speeds. I scrape the footpegs occationally in the slower turns, but for me I almost have to be consciously trying to scrape to get it to happen because like I mentioned the bike doesn’t just drop in on it’s own. I’ve often thought about taking the Stryker out to an open practice on a racetrack where I could spend the day running laps and getting a feel for the bike’s limits under a controlled environment. I hope to make that happen one of these days.

Pegs scrap long before the exhaust does. I was scrapping frame when I hit the exhaust. My wife is 5'8" & pretty thin (weighs 50% less than me) so I know she's back there but doesn't effect my driveabillity much but she knows how to be a passenger.

I scrap my pegs alot but I love the twisties. On the Stryker (or any cruiser) its important when you are going thru the twisties to bring your inside foot closer to your frame & put little to no pressure on that peg in case you do scrap your peg. This will allow the peg to bounce freely on the road & you can maintain your ride angle otherwise with alot of pressure on that peg when it hits the ground your bike will be pushed upward and may put you in a differenct lane or ditch.
