I am new to the forum, look forward to getting a lot of info on here. Have 2011 Raven Stryker. When I take off in first gear the bike shutters(best way I can describe it). Its like I am taking off in the wrong gear. Took it back to dealearship and they adjusted clutch and belt was also to slack. It fixed some of it but still does it. They said they had to check with Yamaha before they could do anything else. Is this common on this bike. I had a vstar 650 custom before this bike and never had any kind of issue like this in 5 years of riding.

Sounds normal to me. It will do it in the rest of the gears too if you ride light on the throttle. Once you get used to the bike and how it wants to run you can avoid most of that issue, and a good fuel tuner can help with it too.

Thanks I was thinking something was wrong with it. I only have about 125 miles on it and has done it since I got it. Also noted a little lag in the throttle. Guess it will just be an adjustment in learning the bike and might try the fix mentions above. Thanks again

Just suck as slow speed driving. Gotta feather the throttle and clutch or it wants to sputter
Yup.
The Stryker is much different on take of than my 950. I had the same experience at first but learned quickly that it wants to take of much faster. The gear range is much higher. And you are dealing withe a much larger motor. In the case of the 650 the Stryker is twice the cc. So you just need to get use to a different animal. Kind of like going from a 4 cylinder small car to a 8 cylinder muscle car. The take offs are going to be much different.

Good point Toby and I agree.

My solution, just grip throttle and roll at least halfway, then ease off the clutch and lay down some rubber!! Bingo...no sputter!
You got it lol.

Hey,
I had the same problem when I got the Stryker at first, and I realized that I was babying the throttle and clutch. There's a post somewhere on here where I was panicked about following the shift point rpm recommendations of the owners manual and finally I had a buddy of mine that I trusted, drive the bike the proper way (lightly feathering the clutch on take off and not being so light on the throttle on take off) and saw that it was me.

So I learned to feather a little on the clutch and roll the throttle open a little more and she run's awesome.

Thanks I will try your suggestions if it ever stops raining. I thought this could be some of it. It is for sure much more motor than I am used to. Not complaining though. 8)

Finally getting used to the bike and with all the suggestions it is getting better. I need to check my oil though, my oil light came on tonight for the first time and I only have close to 200 miles on it. It went back off but gonna check level tommorow. It is a learning curve though from my old bike
