I purchesed the Arlen Ness Teardrop III Mirrors with the adapter and I am having problems installing it. I notice that the thread on the mirror is not removable. Did I get the wrong mirror, the website were I bought it said it was for the stryker. Does anybody have any ideas on what I can do? Can the thread be removed or should I just return them. Help!

If the mirrors have a threaded stem, you have the wrong ones. The correct mirrors will have a threaded hole in the bottom, not a stem. The right mirror needs an adaptor because the threads are reversed (nice one Yamaha!). The adaptor is Y-1040. Most Yamaha dealers have them in stock. Be certain the mirrors you order are made for Yahama.

What was the web site you got them at? if you give us a part number we can see if you have the right ones... Most of the Arlen Ness Rad III mirrors come with all the hardware to mount on either harley or metrics...

I'm the tech guy here at Arlen Ness. We make two styles of stems for our Metric mirror line. The "Steel Stem" mirrors unfortunately do not work on Yamaha models as right hand male threads are machined directly on the steel stems, and are not removeable. All Yamaha mirror applications that I know of have left hand threads on one side, and therefore require our "Die Cast" stems. The die cast stems have female threads that will accept the 10mm left hand thread adapter, Ness part number Y-1040. Hope this clarifies the solution.

These are the ones I have from PHATPerformance:

http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/Arlen_Ness_Rad_III_Teardrop_Mirror_Black_Left_p/13-092.htm

After this thread started.. I emailed PHAT and asked the question... they said that the only adapter that it did not come with was the one for a Yamaha cruise... due to left hand thread on left side. they gave me this part number for the Kuryakyn adapter they sell

Part 1413

I ended up ordering the adapters from Jakewilson.com... $9.99... but that was only because I had bonus dollars credited.

Thanks guys for all the info. It seems I did get the the ones with the stems. Although the website I got them from cruisercustomizing said it was for the Stryker. Hey Arlen tech, do you happen to know the sku # to order them at the arlen ness website.

Rebel, I had the same issue with Cruisercustomizing. I order from them a lot because they have good prices, but they failed me with the mirrors. I ordered two different sets (based on the advice from customer service) and both were wrong and I had to send them back. Cost me shipping both ways and I was not happy. Sent them a complaint, but you know what happens to complaints. Anyway, I finally ordered from the Arlen Ness site and got the correct mirrors. SKU: 13-092 left SKU: 13-093 right. These are BLACK. If you want chrome, they are 13-090 and 13-091.

They did the same to me about the shipping... then I wrote an email to customer service about how I felt they were robbing me and said I would write the BBB... I was refunded all my shipping fees. Don't take no for an answer... they will refund you return shipping fees.

So glad that I found this post! Thanks for all the information. This has been a very frustrating experience and others need to know about it.

I just wrote the following letter to Cruiser Customizing:

Your products and customer service are extremely disappointing and I will be sending back the products and NEVER be ordering from your site again. Apparently, you sell two different types of Arlen Ness Rad III Tear Drop Black Mirrors. One has a female thread on the end, to which an adapter connects, and can be used on Yamaha motorcycles. The other has a male thread that is permanently connected to the mirror stem and does NOT work with Yamahas. Your customer service "specialists" have absolutely no idea of this difference. They claimed that all I would need is an adapter (which would work on the female threaded version), but it was inconceivable to them that they actually sell the other type. The customer service agent told my husband that the male threaded rod IS removable, and now there are some scuff marks on the threads, since this certainly is not true. The photo of the product on BOTH types shows the female thread version, which is absolutely a misrepresentation of the product a customer is ordering. The attached posting thread was started in December 2011, after I ordered these mirrors. It refers to Cruiser Customizing in a very negative light because others have had this problem even though the motorcycle brand was specified. Cruise Customizing ought to know that the one type of Rad IIIs do not fit into Yamahas and should not be sending this type out to Yamaha owners, especially when the photo of the product on your website shows the mirror that is actually desired.

I am sending these mirrors back and ordering them directly from the Arlen Ness website who are recommended in the posting thread. Your company has completely failed in attaining trust and confidence in me as a customer. I need to get a hassle-free return and a refund of all of my shipping, including shipping of the mirrors to me, shipping of the adapter to me, and return shipping of the items from me to you.
