Yes disaster. My desire to find out if my new riding gloves lived up to their reviews that said they would keep your hands warm in sub freezing temps because once again my bike fu was weak I couldn't resist that challenge. And that combination was a formula for disaster. After I stopped for a few pictures I headed down the road and no sooner did I say out loud, "**** I think I chose the wrong tire track", I ended up with ice and snow between my tires and asphalt. And yes I ended up on my ass in the snow. I was completely sideways and almost at a stop before the tail pipe touched the ground. So lucky for me there was enough snow that the bike didn't even get a big enough scratch on the pipe to get a picture of and I picked it up before thinking of getting a pic of it on it's side. But here is pics of the road just before I go down it. Oh and the gloves still need more testing before I can give my opinion on them.

I am thinking I would be putting her up and cleaning her up and thanking my lucky stars I had something to clean up. Next spring is right around the corner... ;)

Glad the only thing hurt was maybe your pride. ;D

Yes even though the Stryker has proven to be a very stable machine I don't think a sport bike would be exactly what would be right for theses conditions. I'm thinking a snowtorcycle or a snowmobile would be a better choice. But if I would have taken my better sense with me, she wouldn't have allowed me to turn up that way anyway. And now she has grounded me and took my keys. The hard thing is spring doesn't get here till June up here.. lol.

The problem was that you were not towing someone sleeding behind you.
Better wait until spring or tade for a duel sport like a DRZ.
ya I should have had been towing some one that would have been much more fun.

Ya I'm counting my lucky stars but spring is a long time away up hear. I wont be able to get my bike where it was today until late May or June. And that is only 4 miles from my door.

Toby... you are hard like woodpecker lips for even Thinking about going out in those conditions!!!! Glad everthing worked out though!!! Did the gloves work? ;D
gloves need more testing. I couldn't find anywhere to get up past 40 mph long enough to tell. But for speeds around 25 to 30 they were fine.

No no Toby, rather do the test in a scientific way, like a kitchen stool, a fan and a freezer. Oh and a cup of coffee near at hand. Glad you are ok and not much damage. I sure feel for you guys, here in my neck of the woods we ride all year round and other than rain it's no problem. Temps range between 6C and 40C throughout the year and we have to go hundreds of km's to see snow. Regards fron Durban RSA.

That's funny. I was thinking of another word other then Dedication. ;) Maybe just picking up some snow and holding it in your gloves may have been a simpler and smarter test. ::)

Ya, snow and street bikes not too fun! Just go to the store in your truck and put your hand out the window to test your gloves. Might be a little embarrassing but not as bad as layin on the road?
Hey I think between (My Life's) idea of picking up some snow and your idea (Straightjacket) to add the wind chill factor in would be a much safer way to test them gloves. lol. But that takes the fun out of it. And it was nice finding out how the Sryker feels at a slide sideways have to lay it down circumstance at a slow some what controlled condition. and it handled well might I add. I have laid bikes down more than once in undesirable conditions. Slid under a car once about 25 mph and was able to pick the bike up and ride off. Hit a car straight on at 15 mph and totaled the front end. So I think all riders should and will learn what it feels like when they have to break hard and slide the rear tire and they should learn to lay it down safely This is in future training for my wife.

The gloves were ordered from leatherup, They were on sale for 39.95. They are the Xelement XG-856 Deerskin insulated padded motorcycle gauntlet gloves. They seem pretty warm, they will get tested MORE SAFELY this weekend since it looks like we will ride up to Eureka to visit my son for Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving you all! =)
