I've met a guy who makes custom luggage racks about 20 minutes from my house. I don't know about pricing yet, but I'm going to let him borrow my bike for a few days so he can design some for us. He'll be able to get solo rack measurements, stock 2-up measurements, and passenger backrest measurements from my bike. I'll get more details on this when I get them. Here's a few pictures of his work on a Victory Vegas.

Re: New Luggage Racks

Now I like the width if he can make it quick detachable. I run into the problem now with the factory rack with my tail bag falling down the sides of the rack and almost rubbing on my fender. Granted I could get a stiffer bag, but the prices they ask for those things are ridiculous. I got my soft bag from amazon for $30 shipped and other than being soft sided, its great. The extra width would be nice for when I have the bag on (probably 90% of the time) but I agree it would look too wide without something on it.

Re: New Luggage Racks

Well, I guess I can agree that they do look wide on the victory, but I got a chance to see what they look like on the stryker last night (sorry no pictures), and I think you'll all like them. They definitely fit our bikes a lot better than the victory bikes! Should have pictures of the prototype by the end of next week. ;)

Here's a couple of pictures to show you all a size comparison with the Stryker fender. It's not the final product, but I think it looks pretty good. He also made a separate bracket for the OEM backrest. It bolts on the same way that the OEM luggage rack does.

Any idea on price yet? The factory rack just isn't quite wide enough for my bag.
I haven't asked yet. He just does these as a small business out of his garage though, so I bet he'd do a group buy if there were enough people interested.

Re: New Luggage Racks

Well the final product is finished, and it looks GREAT! I did a little research, and his prices are a little high, but he said he would be willing to do a group buy if there was enough interest.

So here's the details of the luggage rack:
1) There are 3 different design options
2) It's black
3) It can be used with or without the OEM backrest
4) It's larger than the OEM luggage rack

The only down side of this is the price. He said he retails them for $289 , but he usually lists them on Ebay for $240. As far as a group buy, he said he would sell them for $175 plus shipping. The nice part about that is the fact that there's no date limits. That price is good any time we get a group together.

Any Takers?

I am a fan of chrome, not into the blacked out look. But they do look nice. I would be interested if there was a chrome choice...

What do you mean by Funky Street? I think they fit the bike pretty well!

Anyway... I took some pictures of it with the backrest on my lunch today:
