Welcome from New York!
Hey the insurance is not bad at all. I have so so credit, and I financed the whole bike, and got a candy red 2012 with a couple factory mods for around 7% in all on Yamaha Credit, I had a cheaper loan from another place, but I couldn't include accessories as I wanted certain factory ones... In any case insurance from Allstate for me was right around $40 a month, and that includes the gold package, so if I wreck it, or get 100 miles from home it's all covered with a new bike, and trip charges for towing etc... But, wrecking it might be a moot point. Heck I even switched my new 2011 tacoma I got in September over and saved 300 bucks a year on that too.
As for parts, they are everywhere... Footpegs/Grips/Exhaust and many other mods are standard... It's basically a Raider with a 1300 engine and Raider looks, same engine as the Vstar1300... so there are alot of mods... check out Low and Mean for some good custom ones. Ironically if there isn't a stock mod for it, just lookup some of what others have done and posted around. You would be surprised!
