Hi all. Just bought a 2012 that was cleaned with a toothbrush after every ride. Love it!! The handle bars need to come back a bit for me. My shoulders are wearing out being so forward. Don’t really want to change out all the cables. Any suggestions on what to use?

Congrats on the purchase! Welcome to the asylum :) Post a pic!

The first thing I would suggest is buying some handlebar risers. I have added them to numerous bikes over the years, and if you just need an inch or 1.5" back, you will probably be alright as there is always play in the cables. If you are just moving the bars back more, it may be different than if you want them upright more.

Easy way to test if this will work is to just unscrew the riser, and see if you can prop a block of soft wood underneath the bars to the height you require. Have a friend help so you don't drop anything or scratch anything.

Have you tried lowering the bars, tilting them towards you?

Hope this helps.

sscustomcycle.com can make cables of any length you want as well.
