Hey all,
Picked up a 2011 Raven Stryker a few weeks ago, but I've only been able to get out on it a few times.
So far, I love it (everyone who rides it loves it).

I knew it needed a rear tire in the near future when I bought it, but I wanted to do some tire research first.

Last week, I arrived at my brother's house for a ride, and we noticed the rear was real low on air.
We pumped it up and it seemed to hold, rode and all seemed good. I was leaving the bike there for a week or so, but he called me today to say that the rear was dead.

I've been looking at all the tire warehouses for a good all-weather set (Bridgestone G852's on there right now), but thought I'd drop by here and get some reviews from actual Stryker riders. I stressed all-weather because I am a rain magnet. I also like to ride on the OBX of NC, where the weather is unpredictable and there is no place to hide.

I'm going to keep reading reviews, but now I must act fast if I'm going to order and get 'em mounted before the weekend. Not too worried about the price so much, just looking for a good tire for the Stryker.

Edit: I'm sorta leaning towards the Metzler ME880 (120/70-21 F & 210/40-18 R). $390 for the pair.

Thanks, Steve

I have 1,500 miles on my METZELER ME880 240/40VR-18 & love the way it handles thru the twisties & the wet roads. I live in the soggy Northwest so you learn to ride in the rain or you don't ride much. I ride in all weather/temps except snow/ice.

Personally I'm sticking with the Metz 880, but as 240 in the rear when I wear out the stock, and of course sticking to the matching 120 front tire as well. I've riden in light rain, pouring rain, as well as on those that were recently paved without any noticible problems with slipping on curves, and I do love the cornering on em. When you can scrape your pegs for a good 4-5 feet on a 130 degree hard turn in 1 through 2nd gear loud enough for those in front to turn to see if you wiped out, and those in back just laughing so hard they can't do it on their Hondas and Harleys... In my opinion thats a good tire...
I debated on the Avon's too but I've had experience with this tire not the other.

I'm having to replace my tires due to a recent cross country ride that flattened them out, found a place in myrtle beach on eBay and ordered the Avon Cobras front and rear for less than 350 for the set with free shipping

I can't say enough good things about Metzler tires. That's what I now use on 2 of my 3 bikes. Soon I will have Metzlesr on my Stryker also. There has already been comments about how well they handle in wet conditions but let me add that they have proven to get good traction in snow and ice as well. I followed my wife down what is called refrigerator alley. 30 miles of icy snowy roads in mid January and had no problems. watched my wife slide a little one time when she down shifted while already on the ice. She learned very fast not to do that. We made it through what seamed to be every mile or two there was between a 1/4 to 1/2 mile patch of icy snow on the road. I was impressed with her bravery and the fact that her bike slide very little with the Metzler tires on it. My Stryker on the other hand was a bit of a challenge to keep it straight with the stock Bridgestones on it. There was another time we hit some black ice on a corner late in the evening and I watched her fishtail and put her foot down and kept the bike upright. My Stryker was almost sideways at one point but I managed to keep her up. Scarey to say the least. I also watch her go through gravel with much more control and ease than I do on my Stryker. Soooo!! I can't know for sure that it's the Metzlers or just the difference in bikes why hers handles better in those conditions than mine until I get Metzlers on mine and experience the same conditions. But I may never know because we will avoid those conditions if at all possible. Believe me I learned my lesson when I went out to test my new gloves in freezing conditions and ended up laying her down in a snow bank. My hands didn't get cold though. ;D
