New riding season - already picked up a nail in the rear tire.
Yay.

The tire had 5 psi when I checked it today. Anyone got a guess as to whether this can be patched? The puncture is right at 2 inches in from the edge of the sidewall.

So, is this something that Ride-On sealant and balancer will work on?

I plugged mine at 600 miles and have just over 3K now. Held air fine all winter long. I watch it and I'm no longer concerned BUT...

I fully support and understand other people views on plugging/patching. BTW, good luck trying to find a shop to do a patch. No luck here and I would have preferred that to a plug but they aren't interested in going that route.

Honestly you can get a new tire for $200 shipped(Avon 240 for sure) and 40-80 to mount it (off/on bike) which isn't too bad.
It comes down to the level of risk you want to accept. A plugged/patched tire will always have additional risk.
In Illinois summer is construction season so the risk of picking up another nail etc. is always there so I'm not replacing the tire as of yet.

I think rideon is a good investment since small holes will be sealed. Other people have posted positive reviews. Not sure if it'll fill an existing gap but logically I don't see why not.

Well, looking at a video on Ride-on 's website, it shows the coverage area of the product and I think my puncture is outside of the center patch zone... yay.

So... Anyone know the best price on an Avon 240? Looks like I'll be joining the club this sooner than I thought.

I really have no way of plugging it myself - it must be done from the inside-out, right? So, unless I can find a shop to do it. It sits until the new tire arrives. Yay.

Plug is done from the outside. Patch is done from inside.

Get you a plug kit from walmart or auto zone. If its too cold out, roll your bike into the kichen open the stove door and turn it on. Always gotta drink a few cold ones before you start pluggin away!. easy as it looks..
There you go my friend.... :thumb:

Huh. I honestly did not recall that plugs went in from the outside - in. I went out and grabbed a patch kit at ye olde Walmart and set it a few minutes ago. Filled up the tire and we'll see if it holds air overnight. Thank you for the ideas!

Tomorrow, I will see if I can
A.) find an Avon 240 (or ANY 240) nearby and
B.) see if anyone local will even MOUNT the **** thing!
