Did an oil change today. Thought it odd that I did not have a crush washer on the drain plug. Has anyone else noticed that they did not have a crush washer on the drain plug from the factory?

Yes, sort of! During the 1st oil change I did, I did not (initially) see a washer. I wasn't to worried about it since I had read a previous thread about some did and some did not and were running fine, no oil leaks, without it. So I did the same. However, as I was pouring my old oil into a recycle container, there it was, in the oil. I now have that washer taped to a new oil filter to use it next time. I have about 800 miles on it so far and no leaks. Oh well.

I've only changed my oil once so far, but it did have the crush ring. It was definitely crushed down very thin, but it was there. Stopped by the dealer to pick up a few from the parts dept. to make sure I had some on hand.

Thanks for the replies.

I did not see any trace of one on mine. I noticed before I even took it off that it appeared to not have one. I took it off carefully and saw no trace of one.

The rookie at the parts counter gave me the wrong size to replace it, so I do not have one on there now. He gave me one that fits the smaller 12mm bolts instead of the 17mm drain plug. I'll be seeing him today. :)

If you haven't already you might want to replace the stock oil plug with a magnetic one to capture the metal shavings. I do this will all my motors and am surprised what a matnet can catch. Just a thought.
That's an awesome idea! What size does our Stryker use? I see a listing for 4 different sizes:

• 10mm/1.5
• 12mm/1.5
• 14mm/1.25
• 14mm/1.5

That is a good question - All I can find is that the Drain Bolt is a M14, and should be tightened to 43Nm.

I would like to change that to a magnetic plug as well and would like to know what size to get -... also if its a M14 - why is the crush washer 17mm instead of 14? just asking because of what OTRP stated... he got a 12.. and he's looking for a 17mm.. but shouldn't it be a 14?

To be honest I can't remember the size. I took it down to NAPA and they matched up the size for me with a magnetic plus and some crush washers to use for future oil changes. Checked the bolt head and it doesn't have any markings for size. Wish I could give you more into.

Nice idea and info MN. I'll visit NAPA during my next change. Thanks!

Just for clarification:

My OEM drain bolt head size is 17mm, not the crush gasket. I did go to the dealer and get the right size crush gasket which is probably about 14mm ID.

The one he gave me before fit on the 12mm bolt head underneath and was about a 10mm ID washer.

Hope this clarifies.

I've never changed mine yet though 4 oil changes. The day will surely come though where it will stop sealing.
